I just moved my whole megaEz library to an external using soundmover.
I now have the folders on the new drive ,all the originals are still visible on my main drive.
Is this correct ?
How do i know which one is being used now ?
If i delete the folders on this new drive will the old ones be usable ?
I was actually wanting to move the EZ keys Library and this Mover was next to EZkeys
so i had hoped it would give me a choice to make it a move EZk but it just moved the whole EZdrummer files,no choice.
Now it’s a bit of a mess.
Hi,
are you sure the ‘EZdrummer’ folder still is on your old drive? There should be a symbolic link, an alias pointing to the new drive but the data should all be on the new location.
If you unplug the external drive, can you still navigate in the ‘EZdrummer’ folder, going from your system drive?
I saw that you are all set on the EZkeys library in your other thread.

Hey John.
I can verify i see the original folder and it looks to be intact,i actually didnt really want this moved so want it back wher it should be for EZ updates and such.
What is best for clean all this up ?
Perhaps would be nice to have the samples on this new drive not my main drive but updates and such need to be EZ to do.
All my SD2 libraries are on an external and work fine.
Run SoundMover again and point it to ‘Mac HD/Library/Application Support/’ where EZdrummer is Default installled. When it is done, you should have everything pointing correctly and EZdrummer should load all EZX:s OK, even if you remove the external drive.
If it does, you can safely delete the ‘EZdrummer’ folder on your external drive.

What i would prefer is to split the Samples off to the external,
and keep all else on the System drive as recommended. Same as SD2 is this do-able and or OK to do ?
If so, any help as how to do it correctly,i would rather not re install as there is all the libraries.
No,
EZX:s can’t be split from the MIDI and core content. Toontrack MIDI and EZX:s need to be inside the same ‘EZHOME’ folder.

So whats the go , can it be living on an external, it seems so but i was sure it is recommended not to do for updates ect ,any insight ?
I did also notice the little arrows on the folders on the original folders Home location so they are Aliases just 4kb ?
Funny thing is the Sound files inside for all the libraries and of normally size. So these are moved and in the old place at the same time.
If you have used SoundMover to relocate the ‘EZHOME’ location, all future updates, EZX installs and Toontrack MIDI will find it correctly. It’s the manual moving that jinx things up.
RE: the Alias; that”s the beauty of it. It looks like it’s in the same location but it is in fact on your external drive.
Try removing the drive and then start EZdrummer. It shouldn’t work.

Yes after migrating all the Play libraries and NI ultimate stuff tonite when all is done i will test via removal method
Re EZ HOME i didn’t recall getting a choice as to what was being moved.
This part of setup is a bit unclear and info hard to find.
Thanks for all your input thus far John
to clarify, Soundmover moves the entire ‘EZdrummer’ folder – it is not possible to leave the MIDI behind, or cherry pick which EZX gets moved, as John explained. There is really no drawback to this and I’m not sure why you would want to do it any other way. I guess the name ‘Soundmover’ may be misleading but it is essentially a ‘content mover’, which would be no more clear a moniker.
Anyway, all that to say, if you run Soundmover, EZdrummer (and Superior/EZplayer in fact) will pick up its resources from the new location thereafter, it is that simple. Updates will perform appropriately – and while the alias exist for several reasons, it is mostly to make sure old EZX disks do not end up putting their files in the original (and initially non customizable) default location. In most situation it does not have to exist but I recommend you don’t delete it.
I hope that clarifies.

Yes, I didn’t want to separate them but was not sure, as needed the samples moved also knowing to be wary about not moving the other stuff for the reasons you explain clearly above, i felt that was the case but wanted clarification,Thanks Rouge and John
I dont think i have ever moved EZDrummer files manually as it was briefly explained not to years ago
Blindly i went ahead on a hunch and all is well.
.
The original folder is there but if i take the New Drive offline no EZ files are their to load so it may not look empty but it is ???? Wow,thats all right so long as i know.
I truly searched but had to ask because i could not find an answer.
Correct me if i am wrong.
With EZk i guessed to uninstall the re do it and that worked but for my whole EZ library that would have been way too much so Hooray for Soundmover on that level.
It would be really handy if Soundmover was not needed for EZD and SD2 EZD,EZK all worked the same.
That way it could be explained once ,learned once .
However i see why Soundmover is handy for moving a big load of X-packs.

well you are confusing foders (directory) and aliases (well technically symbolic links in this instance), all they have in common is a vaguely resembling icon, but that’s merely an aesthetic choice by Apple. The icon of the alias should turn ‘blank’ (generic) when the folder it targets is not mounted/present though.
Anyway, you should not focus on that behind-the-scene aspect, it really is not required or useful for you as a user, but you certainly could retain from the above that aliases are not folders in any way shape or form, despite the misleading icon.

they will eventually, but EZdrummer was released 2006, at a time where some very serious (Apple) installer limitations where in place – we can’t just wipe that legacy off and ignore it. Well, technically we probably could, but at a fairly high risk of introducing problems for users that are perfectly happy and up-and-running at this stage.

It was just a question to confirm all is ok ,
It is my system and i don’t focus on behind the scene aspects but when doing the critical H/Drive changes i do need to like what is going on.
I am a “happy up and running customer but at fairly high risk” too if i mucked things up.
Im not a computer tech, another illuminating software dev story.
Thanks Rogue.
