Hello,
I have been using Producer 7 for some time. I now have new Win 7 64 bit machine and ahve installed Sonar X1 along with EZD paks. I only installed 64 bit version (not 32 bit first).
When I try to insert EZD as vst it does not appear in Sonar. I have pointed Sonar to the vst folder for EZD installation. Can someone advise what I have done wrong? Maybe there was an option to point EZD installation somewhere else which I missed on install. Should I uninstall all EZD paks and reinstall?
Cheers
Please read the ‘Important ReadMe’ file that accompanies the latest updater.
You MUST install the 32 bit version of EZdrummer and patch it using the included 32 bit updater if you wish to use the included 64 bit update.

Thanks Scott, that’s a great help. Do I have to unistall EZD and all of my paks first and then erinstall starting with 32 bit then 64 bit? I recently ahd an issue with toontracks about authorising my products on my new pc and I don’t want to go throgh that again.
How do I point EZD to Sonar?
Cheers,
Bill

You should uninstall EZdrummer (not any expansion packs) and install the full product first. Then run the 32-bit updater. Next run the 64-bit updater.
The 64-bit version should install to ‘C:Program FilesVstPluginsToontrack64bit’.

Hi Scott,
You just sent me a link to another answer you gave me but it lead me to another post, not my post.
You said you do not understand how I installed 64 bit without 32 bit. I have not applied the update yet, I have only installed the paks from my cd’s. I have not installed EZD 32 bit, only 64 bit. I did not know about the patch until you mentioned it.
I have my new Win 7 system 64 bit. Here is the procedure I used.
1. Installed Sonar Producer X1
2. Installed EZD standalone 64 bit
3. Installed EZD full app 64 bit (I did not specify a location for dll. Should I have done this? How do I point it to Sonar?)
4. Installed all of my add on paks from cd as 64 bit
Now at this point I just want to know how I can fix all of this. Here is what I propose to do. Will this work?
1. I will uninstall ALL EZD (Please confirm I will not have an issue with authorisation by doing this)
2. I will reinstall ALL by doing 32 bit first then 64 bit. How do I point it to Sonar so Sonar picks it up?
3. I will apply the patches 1.3.1 for EZD, EZD standalone and EZD Cocktail
4. I will apply 32 bit first then 64 bit.
Is all of that correct procedure?
Cheers
that response was mine, not Scott. I removed it because I deemed it more confusing than not, for anyone but me… but it seems that remark was relevant (however not 100% accurate it was).
Because from your account here above I can tell you had the 32-bit installed, not the 64-bit, as the 64-bit has never been included on disc, and can solely be acquired by downloading the latest update. I am unsure why you assumed it was the 64-bit, but that is incorrect in any case.
In other words, you were probably already in the right position to install the 64-bit update, required for Sonar Producer 64-bit. Possibly still are. And yes, in 3, you should have directed the installer to deposit the plug-in in the correct path, as outlined in the install instructions.
Right now your best option is to run the EZdrummer 32-bit update, followed by the 64-bit. When installing the latter, pay attention to the location specified for the plug-in part (well the only component in the 64-bit installer, since it contains nothing else), as it needs to be appropriate for Sonar.
Alternatively, you should use the default path (C:Program FilesVstPluginsToontrack64bit) and tell Sonar to scan this folder at start up. I strongly suggest you learn more about Sonar VST wizard/manager as this will save you a lot of blind troubleshooting in the future…

Ok Rogue, understood. I am fully aware of how Sonar vst scan works, have been using it for years and have many different dll’s. Also using EZD for a while and never had an issue with installing it on my XP system. I must have taken a wrong turn somewhere on new pc.
I saw another post by Dave Modisette (very intuitive guy) somewhere and he mentions that 32 bit should be installed as well or 64 bit will not work. That is what gave me the clue in the first place as I had only installed 64 bit as I mentioned.
And, I can assure you 100% my cd offers both 32 bit and 64 bit installation options. Don’t forget, I am in the UK so maybe something different available here for distribution? I just ran it again last night to make sure I was not going crazy. I have only just downloaded the patches and will apply those tonight.
Your information is very clear.
Cheers
… I make all the DVDs for all the printed editions of our software (as well as web resources), so I can assure you that your DVD simply cannot contain the 64-bit, at least if it is not an unauthorized compilation of resources I cannot know about (and I don’t mean a dodgy copy, sometimes resellers think it’s a good idea to provide ‘custom’ media with the latest updates) 🙂
But that was also my first initial alarm bell, though EZplayer somewhat complicates the matter (in ways not too relevant, but I noted you owned it), you simply cannot install the 64-bit update of EZdrummer if the 32-bit is not on the system.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t blame you for being confused, but trust me, as the person making both installers and physical discs, I am quite sure I don’t have my wires crossed, though that certainly happens from time to time 🙂
Let us know if running the update (both 32-bit and 64-bit) works for you. Just make sure you note the path the 64-bit VST is being installed to, as that is what is relevant to Sonar.

Hey Rogue, I stand corrected. Checked again last night when I was patching after uninstalling and reinstalling EZD. I think I was confusing it with my Sonar installation which definitely gives the 32/64 bit choice.
Anyway, got it all up and running in Sonar so thanks for the good advice.
