I don’t see that feature anymore either.

Toontrack removed some pro level features that were extremely useful for total creative freedom. While the drum sounds are killer, as are the mixer features, they unfortunately removed some powerful features for writing with total creative freedom.

I’m coming from Superior Drummer 2, and this new version honestly feels like it should be called EZ Drummer Pro.

Hi George, Glad to see your post as I was beginning to believe that I was the only one using the Instrument List Tab in any way.
The other functions I am missing that went with using the Instrument List is the Layer option in the SD2 Player. Using these 2 functions would allow me to find similar Instrument Patterns throughout the entire midi library, and drag them down to form custom instrument performances.
I hope others have used these features enough to warrant seeing them come up in any future firmware updates.

What option do you refer to here?

@Henrik – In Superior Drummer 2, I believe he is referring to combining (layering) kit pieces from various MIDI Grooves to create a custom performance. For example, taking the HiHats from one groove, the kick from another, and the snare from another, which together create a one-of-a-kind performance.

Having that ability allows the user to create a seemingly unlimited number of grooves built from the individual kit pieces available in the Grooves panel.

I too would love to have this feature in Superior Drummer 3. Hopefully some of the previous code base can be used to make it somewhat less tedious to reimplement.

Ah ok. It is possible in SD3 too. Right click a groove > Copy. Right click a groove on track > Paste > select what part to paste. We will look into making it more visible, but in the meantime – this does the same thing 🙂

Thanks for the info, Henrik. While that ability is not so obvious, I’m glad to see the option there.

However, when trying to ‘stack’ various kit pieces by selectively pasting (as in your much appreciated suggestion), the previously pasted kit piece gets replaced instead of being added to the existing MIDI. I also tried pasting each kit piece into its own separate Song Track, but the tracks do not play simultaneously. As of now, I am not able to take the hats from one groove and combine them with the kick and/or snare from another groove in the Song Track. And that ‘layering’ ability (available in SD2) is what the original poster was referring to.

If you have groove on the song track, and right click > “Paste > Hi-hat” for example, the hi-hat will be added (and replace the old hi-hat from that groove). If you select “All” – the entire groove will be replaced…

This totally works! Thanks again Henrik, your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Still missing though is the ability to audition individual kit pieces within the Grooves browser (as it was in SD2).
