Hello.
So I have no idea why the bottom snare is in stereo. I know how to route to mono. thats not the issue, its just why is the sample in stereo???
Im just curious.
Thanks in advance.
George Massenburg recorded the snare bottom in stereo. Other than the fact that it sounds good, you’d probably have to read up of his recording methodology to discover his insights.

I mean ya it sounds awesome. I guess that would be the best answer as to why he would do that.
BUT – Its also like that in superior drummer 2…. I’ve seen a snare bottom in stereo in Toontrack’s products several times… Interesting.
I’d chalk that up more to producer prerogative than anything else. While some libraries have a stereo snare bottom, others such as Rock Foundry and Custom & Vintage, may not. However, you might find other mic channels, such as a snare side, in the case of Rock Foundry.
I see all of these more as possibilities and flexibilities more than anything else.

In a conversation that I had with George, he mentioned that the snare bottom stereo mics provide an expansive spread to to the snares that provides some width, while still maintaining a strong center focus in combination with the top mics. I am paraphrasing and this is not a direct quote.
