    Hi Phil,

I was thinkng a lot of what is possible to reach the desired goal of more realistic slides.

In my opinion having real sliding samples as part of the library is very complex, because you can slide from any note to any other note forwards or backwards.

I was testing how do single notes sound in contrast to the algorythm that EZbass ist currently supporting us. There is already some kind of smoothing. My impression is that they are doing it with a simple volume crossfade.

I also made a test on my real fretted bass guitar for I want to stay fair. Even on a real fretted bass you can hear the steps from fret to fret.

But transitions should be smoother, maybe by adding a morphing algorythm of a larger area between two frets.

Furthermore there should be sliding finger/string noise in the background.

    I fully agree with Mazuwa

A bit more smoothing, and some finger/string noice would make a big difference. Doesn’t have to be perfect as in the mix you will not notice anyway.

I actually managed to make it sound OK in the end. Not perfect, but ok.

    Let’s hope for future updates.

Yes, also agreed. I realise that samples of slides would be impractical. Especially as they would be no doubt new ones. The thing is, it would only actually take 2 or 3 samples. As the start and end points can be adjusted to match the notes that start and end the slide.

Other libraries I have, have some slides up, down and then up+down, there aren’t many but they do have the sound of the exact bass you are using. Take Trilogy for example. There are a few slides at the lower end of the keyboard. They are very very useful and they only play for the length of the MIDI note. Even though not necessarily the same “key” as your track they always fit nicely.

But anyway, you are right that the EZbass ones do sound better in the mix, especially after a bit of work. I am now in the habit of saving all my grooves and slides in the EZB Groove library itself so they are easily accessible and editable. 🙂
