Sidestick is one of my favorite drum articulations. Some of my most enjoyable recordings have a simple sidestick beat. On the recordings, the sidestick sound is usually quite full and solid. When I attempt to play sidestick with my own DAW and SD 3 I use my midi controller keyboard to make the sidestick sound.
The problem is that when I play the sidestick with SD3 and my midi controller keyboard the sound of the sidestick is not full and solid. It is rather weak sounding. The interesting thing is that the other drum articulation sounds using the same set up with the midi controller keyboard and SD3 sound rather good. But, the sidestick sounds rather weak.
Any suggestions on how to get SD3 to emulate a more full and solid sidestick sound? Is it a certain kit selection perhaps or effects processing settings that can make a difference?
Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how to create a stronger full bodied sidestick sound in SD3.
Thanks!
There are a lot of factors that could be affecting this, starting from snare choice to the type of processing used on both the direct and ambient channels. Just comparing a recording to a RAW library is comparing apples to oranges. Perhaps, it would help if you provided a reference track as well as any preset that you are using.

Other than that, you can always try just raising the volume of the Sidestick articulation only.
And/or Stacking a Sidestick articulation from another Snare on the Sidestick and route this Stacked one to a separate new mixer channel.

Thanks for everyone’s input!
The suggestion regarding the presets helped me begin to explore different preset options.
Also, this video helped point out options available which I was not fully aware of in SD3 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6eNzSTyLeA&t=6s
Thanks again for all of your help!
