Hi,
I recently bought EZDrummer and I have a question. I use Sidekick in some parts, as Rimshot and Center in another parts. I don’t know how I can have a louder Sidekick without modifying the loudness of Center and Rimshot. The three are in the same channel “Snare”.
If I use a multi-out EZDrummer in Logic Pro it’s the same problem : I can only assign “Snare” to an output so I can’t have one for Sidekick and one for Center and Rimshot.
I know that I can use a second EZDrummer specially for the Sidekick but it’s not a real solution for such a product.
Is it a place where I can change the Sidekick volume without changing Center and Rimshot volume ?
If not, perhaps it’s possible in SD3 ?
You could go after the sidestick notes it in your DAW’s piano roll using velocity. It’s not the same as volume, but probably a decent workaround for most situations.
Yes. SD3 would do this in a few seconds worth of clicking and auditioning. Each articulation has it’s own properties panel.

But the volume is low even with max velocity. I guess it’s the sample’s volume.
Thanks for your answer, I’ll think about buy SD3. But I’m surprised if EZDrummer doesn’t offer this kind of editing.
Z doesn’t, you can figure out some workaround with your DAW. It’s all manual labor though.
There is a crossgrade discount fro EZ to SD.

So my anger about the Toontrack license transfer fee introduced in June 2021 is not entirely unfounded...

I know that I can do that, I spoke about this workaround in my first message.
And if I asked if it’s possible to edit separately the volume of Center, Rimshot and Sidekick it’s because it’s possible in RealiDrums, an instrument for Kontakt which I can’t compare in quality with EZDrummer but which has this possibility.
So, before using workarounds or upgrade to SD3, I thought that asking in the forum had sense.
Today I add a post because I found something very funny.
I bought SD3, as someone here told me that it was the solution to easily have separate output volumes for snare and sidestick. SD3 is very good, I like the sound but, as EZD2 it doesn’t allow to send side stick and snare in different channels, or to have a level control to get a stronger level for the sidestick without changing the level of the snare.
Perhaps I missed something, so if you can tell me how I can do this in SD3… 🙂

EZdrummer version: 2.2.1
Operating system: macOS Big Sur (11)
Solution one is to change the velocity curve for the sidestick articulation. Highlight the snare drum, go to “All Articulations” and a pulldown list will let you select sidestick. Select the velocity curve button and move the velocity curve up so that there are no soft hits for the sidestick articulation.
Solution two is a more involved but will give you a little more flexibility. In the Drums tab, go to Add Instrument, and select the same snare you are using. Make sure you have selected “New” in the “Route Close Mics to Mixer Channels” section. This will give you X-SD… top and bottom channels in the mixer for the newly added snare drum. Highlight the original snare drum and go to MIDI Mapping (on the right side) and expand it. Scroll down to Sidestick (make note of the MIDI note that triggers the sidestick) and clear the midi note for it. Highlight the newly added snare, go to “All Articulations” turn off all the articulations except for sidestick. (This saves on RAM and simplifies the next step). Go to MIDI mapping and add the note from the original snare (in my case C#1) for the sidestick articulation.
Solution three (easier than two) make sure the snare drum is highlighted and click on “All Articulations” (upper right), highlight the Sidestick articulation and then goto “Level” and pull the slider all the way to the left (“off”). Right click the original snare; More > Add to > Select Sidestick and select the original snare from the list and select “Sidestick” from the articulation list (lower right). This will create 2 additional channels in the mixer for the added snare.
Hope this helps.

Many thanks, Brad Holland, for these very good explanations. Sure I feel a little stupid as I didn’t see the “level” function for the articulation “sidestick”. But the “Add instrument” solution is very powerful as it allows to use special treatment in the DAW if multichannel is used. Thanks again.
If you have the articulation selected, the ‘Level’ property Box sets the level for that particular articulation. If you can’t see it, click ‘Show’ in the upper left corner to activate the ‘Level’ property box.

John

Thanks John,
I saw that in Brad’s explanations. And I said that I felt stupid because the function is really visible. But, when I searched before asking, I had not understood that I could select an articulation to change its own properties.
