it does show the notes if you hover over the midi blocks and the piano roll at the side can help you figure out what note you’re looking at.

That’s not useful at all when you have your hands on your instrument and playing along

I guess not no – but forgive me as I don’t usually try to sight read midi tracks.

It’s the same as reading tab or CPN in real time with a moving cursor. But you need the information in front of you, and for lowest cognitive load for real time processing it’s ideal to have the notes and/or intervals on the actual notes. Plus you can slow the tempo to whatever you’re comfortable with to either copy the riff or if you’re working around/over it.

Forgive me sonicviz but the last time I saw guitar tablature they didn’t write the names of each note next to the numbers. Not to say what you’re asking for isn’t useful – just not something I’ve ever come across is all.

Forgive me James but its standard behavior in any midi piano roll to have the option to show the notes (intervals etc)

Tab has the fret number, which is the equivalent of the note in this case. Having the optional ability to add notes/interval to tab wouldn’t be a bad idea either. TuxGuitar does allow you to view the music staff above the tab, if you happen to be a sight reader already.

I’m not sure why you’re trying to be argumentative about it, but please stop – it’s not providing any value.

I’m an educational music app developer myself and the whole point is to make tools more useful for different use cases.

Maybe you should try Scalar2, which has multiple different views for visualizing note data in real time, including a fretboard view which you can change the tuning of on a number of different stringed instruments.

If you don’t want to know people’s opinions then may I suggest if you have an issues with the software that you raise it with the Toontrack team rather than post it in the forums? The whole point of these is to get people’s opinions. As I said above, I’m not suggesting what you’re asking for isn’t useful – just something that I have not come across. If you feel that is argumentative then I feel sorry you can’t appreciate others perspectives.

As for comparing guitar tab to a midi roll I would suggest you’re comparing apples to orange seeds – one is about reading music and one is about creating and playing music. Of course that’s not to say you can’t create music with tab – Guitar Pro anyone? I’ve never seen anyone create a score and play it live with that though or on YouTube even; just like I’ve just never come across people trying to read midi instead of music notation or something like tab. No one said it’s wrong though, so I’m sorry for disagreeing with your statement above; but no – I’m not arguing with you.

    Case in point.

    That’s agreeing with you.

Toontrack support told me to post it in the forums, so I have.

Reply from Toontrack support to my original query:

“At this time that is not a feature of EZBass. We will forward the idea to our home office for consideration in future updates. Another way to suggest new products, or to leave feedback on current products, is by posting your suggestions in the Support Forum via the Customer Service > Requests and Feedback section, as the Toontrack development team browse this section every day.”

My bad, as this was the wrong forum. I missed the customer service forum as it was below the fold and honed in on EZBass.

Still, I wasn’t expecting to get argued with about best ways to practice.

    Bye.

Not a problem man, and listen – I’m not telling you that what you want is wrong or what you’re doing is wrong – just surprised because in nearly 40 years of music and teaching and playing guitar I’ve never come across this idea of reading midi is all.

If someone asked me if Guitar Pro was a good way to create music I’d tell them I don’t think so, no – maybe I’m wrong about that but it’s just my opinion.

I’ve been playing and teaching as long as you (multi-instrumentalist), and I’ve come across it a lot. It’s just another tool among many, in addition to your ears.

Maybe you should get out more?

I’d love to but now is not the time – middle of the pandemic and all 🙂
