When I reopen a session in Pro Tools and open the SD plugin, certain MIDI blocks are not being loaded. The blocks are still there, but there is no MIDI data inside of them. So I am having to go and re program that data.
It only seems to occur to blocks that are shorter than 1 bar in length, and it does not happen to every block. It also seems that once I go and reprogram them once, it doesn’t happen to those particular blocks again.
I’m using pre-programmed MIDI from the Grooves tab for these blocks.
For more detail, here is my workflow:
Open SD
Go to Grooves tab
Drag MIDI groove into SD MIDI track
Find a fill in the Grooves tab (usually shorter than 1 bar)
Drag fill into SD MIDI track
Save session
Quit DAW (Pro Tools)
Re-open session
Open SD
*The block for the fill is still in the SD MIDI track, but there is no MIDI data inside of it
Any ideas why this keeps happening? It is getting extremely annoying and virtually nonusable to keep having to program my fills every time I load a session.
Hi,
Sorry for the problems. When you say the fill is usually shorter than 1 bar, is that its original length in the browser or have you shortened it?
For the next update, we have fixed an issue where this will happen if you have shortened a block so much that none of its powerhand hits will be played. Could that be the case here?
You can test if the fill will disappear by doing for example cut+undo, i.e., click on the fill, press cmd-X and then cmd-Z. If it becomes empty then, a workaround is to (after pasting it back), drag it to either Tap2Find or Song Creator and then drag it back onto where it should be on the track. It’s like a newly created groove then without the hidden notes outside the edge(s) and it should not be affected by the bug.

That’s definitely what is happening!
Any insight on when that that update will be released? This bug is seriously affecting my workflow.
We are working on the update. We can’t give an estimated release date, but we are working as fast as we can!

The same thing started happening to me last night in a session. I have used SD3 for over a year and never had this problem. The MIDI data that keeps disappearing is coming from the the Hard Rock MIDI pack.
When does this update to fix this come out? This is annoying AF…wasted so much time refilling in fills….

Agreed!!! I spent over $500 on this software and it’s not getting support for what seems like a simple bug!
I assure you Toontrack is working as fast as they can on the next update.

New user here. Just installed the program a few days ago and I’m using it as a stand alone program and the same issue is happening with me. But my quick fix is once I have edited the fill (or fills if I’ve combined a couple) to what I want, I go to the Grid Editor, select and copy the midi data for just the fill(s), delete, and then re-paste. It’s more work, but at least I don’t lose what I edited once I save and re-open. How’s that fix coming along????
I’m having the same issue in Logic Pro 10.4.7. When I reopen a song, certain blocks contain no MIDI data. Really slowing down my workflow. I likewise have spend hundreds on the plug-in and MIDI grooves and only some of the MIDI grooves will work.

Could you please elaborate on this, please? What do you mean with only some MIDI grooves will work?

Willing to bet it’s having a fill region that contain fractions of a bar rather than whole bars, which is what the main big is about.
Simple workaround for now, until an update is released, is to use complete bars for fills. If your fill is less than a whole bar, chop off a bit of your groove and join it to the fill to create a complete bar. It’s a 2-second process that isn’t really that much of a pain.
