I am a drummer and I use EZDrummer as a VST in Reaper. I play live via an electric kit (pads) with EZDrummer as the sound source. I then send out individual tracks/stems (wav files) to whoever the project is for. I have been asked by one client if I can give them stems without bleed – even though bleed in the overheads and SD Bottom are normal. Is there a way to set up EZDrummer so that the overheads only contain the cymbals and the bass drum isn’t bleeding into the SD Bottom track? Thanks!
Yes, but you need to use a Library Preset that specifically has the Bleed module on the Mixer Tab. For example, using the Modern Kit, select the Original Mix Library Preset and have multiple bleed options.

Thanked by: Billy Goodnessshootiehg – Thanks for the reply. Can you tell me which of your videos deals with the bleed options? I am using the Post-Rock kit and assigning each drum to separate channels in Reaper. I have it set up to duplicate the sound of my acoustic session kit as far as drums, tuning, cymbals. etc.
If you haven’t seen it yet, my mixer tab video I talk about it a few times. If I had the PostRock kit, I’d take a peek for you.
*I mention mic bleed throughout , @10:20 is the main speech though.
**Crossgrading to Superior should be able to take care of any bleed requests if you EZD2 Library Preset can’t do it.

Thanked by: Billy GoodnessThanks again! I will watch your video(s).
I’ve spent my career as a session drummer and I’m getting up to speed on supplying live (not programmed) drum tracks for clients while socially distanced.
The sounds in EZDrummer far exceed what I could produce by micing my studio kit at home. I simply don’t have the right room, mics, preamps, etc.
This will be a fun journey for you, good luck!

Thanked by: Billy GoodnessIn my EZDrummer Mixer panel there are no effects. Is there a way to add the bleed component and assign it to, for example, the OH and Snare Bottom? Again I’m using the Post-Rock kit as my template that I’ve altered with my own instrument selections and tuning. I originally chose the Post-Rock kit as a template because it allows me to send every drum to a separate channel in my DAW (Reaper). For example, each of the 4 toms is its own channel instead of being grouped as toms. I have me setting saved as a User Preset. Thanks again! This is super helpful.
Sorry, there is not for the specific Library Preset you’re using. You need to choose a Library Preset that has a Bleed Module on the mixer tab. You can not assign one if it isn’t there.
Your options are
1) Crossgrade to Superior. Though I do not own this EZX to confirm. But Bleed is supported on every mixer channel in Superior.
2) Chose a Library Preset that has a Bleed module on the Mixer Tab. There are different Bleed modules though. You’ll be able to remove drums from the overheads and cymbals from your AMB channel usually, if not more options depending on the module. If you take this route, I can advise you on isolating your grouped channels, such as Toms.
Hope that helps.

Got It. The Modern Kit seems to be a good template. I has a good bleed controller.
I’d want to:
1) Get rid of one of the rack toms so there are only 2
2) Get rid of some of the cymbals so there is only a ride and 2 crashes
3) Split the 4 remaining toms into separate tracks (rack 1, rack 2, floor 1, floor 2)
I’m wide open to learning how to do this. Once I get it the way I like it I can save it as a new User Preset.
I can’t thank you enough for all of your help with this.
You can just unload the individual instruments from their properties panel. Select “none”.
Isolating instruments from their mixer channel groups can be done with the volume knob on their respective instrument’s properties panel. Then you simply export the drum track over and over for each individual instrument.
There’s the workflow. You can hit me up on discord if you need a walkthrough. “Shootie School#5896”
Hope that’s what you’re looking for.

If I understand this correctly – the toms would all be recorded to a single track. When I render the tracks, I would only have 1 tom active in EZD and essentially render the tom track 4 times – each time with a different drum active rather than sending the toms to Reaper as separate tracks. The nice thing about the Post-Rock Original Mix is that it has the 4 toms on separate channels. I guess I may need to see if there is an EZD kit that gives me what the Post-Rock Original Mix has as far as channels and also includes a bleed module. The separate render is a possible work-around.
You’re correct. This is a workaround. The reason your not gonna get everything you want is because it would devalue their flagship SD3, my opinion of course. I don’t own every EXZ so I can’t confirm you will not find what you’re looking for. Do let me know if you come out of this successfully, I’m curious.

Thanks. I reached out to Toontrack on Facebook, since I can no longer find a direct email address to the EZD sales group, to ask if there was an EZX that gave me the same number of drums/cymbals and separate channels as the Post Rock Original Mix with bleed control. I’ll let you know when/if they respond.
