hi , I feel your pain, i had to work all this out myself.
I use it the other way around. as in.

I have a stereo out form the Td50X and have the SD3 going in to digital mixer with the SD3 as seperate channels.

this way you get the real drum sounds for those insane SD3 kits and you can then blend over the top the Roland sound with your sliders on the module.

I have not tried the outs straight of the Roland yet, but haven’t had the desire to cause I got the 18 ch digital mixer. Behringer xr18Air…

Man its so hard to explain this over a email, I wish toontracks had a zoom option they could made 10x more on helping people set this up than actual sales of the software.

    Where abouts are you located?

Thanks for the answer. If I would buy another audio interface or digital mixing console I could use it as an Interface instead and use the TD50X only as MIDI Interface. But honestly I hope I can avoid buying another interface cause basically the TD50X has every output I need. I just have to be able too route them correctly 😀

@ Mick: Cool, now I know that my xr18 will work as an aufiointerface with superior drummer. How much latency do you have?

@Cristoph: Ich befürchte Deine Idee wird nicht funktionieren . . . . Auch mein TD27 hat diese Interfacefunktion aber ich kann nur eine Stereosumme rausgeben.

Hey as mentioned Im using both SD3 with the Roland TD50x as a over lay to spice up the SD3 sounds for live, and you can quickly change sounds from the Roland rather than re configuring a new preset and or kit which u need to set up all the midi outs, EQ from SD3 mixer and positional censoring AGAIN?
Just setting up the presets in SD3 can take hours to dial in man. well for me anyway.
But if you put in the effort and the more you do this , then its there if you wanna change kits for songs in SD3 , once you try it you will see what I mean.
I don’t have any noticeable latency, (if you do send me a screen shot of your set up and Ill check it against mine)  it only issue that i came across was I was using an old 2011 mackbook pro and once I loaded it up with Sd3, software for Xr18 and the 160 professional Ableton backing tracks it was glitching even after I upgraded to 16MB ram and 1TB. doh?
Im using the newest MacBook Air 8GB ram M1 Chip, and 500? SSD and its fine its about 3/4 full on the SSD ,  . But get the mac right straight up if you can once you figure out what U will be running on it for studio use or live.

Sorry @Chris, yes you should absolutely be able to use that TD50, in fact its a smart way to go. less stuff to work out in your heads CPU lol. I have not done this way yet , but 1 tip is, solo each channel in SD3, one by one and work through them 1 at a time, you can then see where the kick  for example is getting signal on a visual level in the TD50 without any other bleeds OH, or AMB inferences complicating things. There is also a global setting in the TD50x module that you have to turn off in order to have just the SD3 sound come through, make sure you restart the module to have this new setting take effect!

    @Mick

I was trying the whole day yesterday to get it working but it seems like theres no way to route the SD3 sounds to Rolands DirectOut. No matter which output i chose in ableton it only sends to main l/r or sub l/r. I’m kinda frustrated right now cause I also don’t find any info that it doesnt work that way, so there is still the possibility that I’m doing simply something wrong 🙂

I was asking Roland support but they weren’t of any help…

Let’s see if the weekend helps to get it figured out or if I just go with the aditional audio interface setup.

    Hey guys,

I just want to tell you, that I finally figured out how to do it and since it was such a hustle to find it out, I wanna share it with you, so that anybody who wants to do the same setup as me, doesn’t have to go through trial and error.

So if you wanna use your TD50X (important to have the upgraded version cause the TD50 can’t do it) as an interface and MIDI Controller and use SD3 to send sounds through the TD50X Direct Outs here’s how to do it:

    1. Set the USB Audio Mode in the TD50X to “Vendor” and install the drivers for either Windows or macOS from Roland
    2. Set the Audio Routing to “Loopback” (this option is only available in the TD50X
    3. Open your DAW with SD3 and route the single instruments (kick, snare etc.) to the internal SD3 channels of your choice (I chose 3/4 Kick, 4/5 snare etc…)
    4. Now Create Audio Tracks in the DAW for the single instruments and assign the designated inputs from SD3 Plugin
    5. As Output for the audio tracks now you have to do the following:
      1. Direct Out 1 is Interface Output 5/6
      2. Direct Out 2 is Interface Output 7/8
      3. Direct Out 3 is Interface Output 17/18
      4. Direct Out 4 is Interface Output 23/24
      5. Direct Out 5/6 (Stereo) are interface Outputs 9 – 16 (Toms 1-4)
      6. Direct Out 7/8 (Stereo) are interface Outputs 19 – 22 (Crashes)

As you can see the routing is quiete confusing, and as you can imagine it took me a while to figure it out. I guess it has something to do with rolands internal routing, but if you do so as I did, it should work just fine. Maybe there is a way in the module to change the internal routing, but since I got it to work this way, I won’t even bother to try 😀

I hope with this step by step soluation I can help anybody who has the same issue. If you got any questions don’t hesitate to ask me.

    Cheers,

    Christoph
