the Search box right at the top, next to ‘CART’ not only Searches the main site but also the Forums.

Separate searches would be ineffective as most people who are searching the site could potentially miss out on information pertaining to their needs in the forum and vice versa. This is why companies move to a more enterprise search methodology… it’s all about making the information easily accessible.
