I sure hope not lol. At least not yet. I JUST upgraded SD2 to 3 2 months ago and that would suck even if there is a discount for existing users like before.

    Superior Drummer 3 version: 3.4.0
    Operating system: macOS Catalina (10.15)

Kit: Alesis Nitro Pro XL but using DM10 brain
    Platform: MacOS Monterey 12.7.4

You can do that with envelopes and automation in a lot of daws.

you could for example be playing a certain kit and in a specific part of the song have the daw change it to another SD3 preset while you continue playing and recording then go back to the original preset or to another one depending on what you configured.

an example here using Bias (guitar vst) but it will work the same with SD3

    What I would like to see in SD4;

1- Ability to use 3rd party plugins in the mixer

    2- Improved Tracker

    3- Updated “humanize” function.

4- The ability to name song parts

5- The ability to position added kit pieces, i.e. if you add cymbals to a kit, be able to place them where they belong as opposed to the top left.

6-I wish they would offer the ability to purchase indivisual kit pieces. I am all set with the shells, but I would like more options for hats, rides, cymbals.

    3rd party plugs for sure.

But what I’d really love to see in SD4 would be a sample filtering algorithm (like in XO and Atlas) which could scan sample folders and intelligently assign drums by likeness, that’d be the bom.

Another thing that would float my boat would be to see a stem splitter inside SD4 that would not only analyse and split up an audio drum break but also turn it into a midi file, a more ambitious yet simplified version of Tracker.

If they can give us actual rim shots like a real snare which is seriously missing for reggae drummers and then improve the hi hats I would be satisfied. Also it would be nice if they would work with Actual Jamaicans in Jamaica and create a proper sounding modern reggae drum sdx or ezx.  Anchor Studio, JA now has a Neve 5088 32 channel Shelford Board they could get the proper sound for reggae especially if they work with Delroy “Phatta” Pottinger.  The reggae ezx expansion is seriously dated and not for modern reggae at all.

SD3 like sd2 works fine. I’m sure sd4 will appear at some point but just creating a thread about what users would like 18 months ago has nothing to do with toontrack or when/if they will release a new version.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

We’re now 8 years into SD3. Obviously, no one thinks any forum thread will meaningfully influence Toontrack’s release schedule.  But it’s fair game to say that SD4 feels overdue. IMO it’s been helpful to have a space for users to share what they’d want if/when SD4 appears, and judging by the responses, that’s been worthwhile. Some really great ideas here.
