Hello.
Forgive me if this is in the wrong place. Also, I know this has been adressed before, but I haven’t been able to find a solution so far. So if someone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
I’m running a Windows 11 PC (fully updated), and have SD3 (v3.4.0.) and all updated libraries installed on my OS drive (Corsair Force Series MP600 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD). I figured that having all of it there would provide for the fastest load times.
My DAW is the latest Cubase 14 Pro.
My other specs are as follows:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
RAM: 32Gb G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4.
GPU: ASUS ROG Strix x570-F
Also, I have a few other SSD disks in the PC for storing as well, but everything that has to do with this (Cubase and SD3) is on the OS drive.
My default kit that loads upon startup in SD3 is Nashville Slam at 2599Mb. On a freshly started computer, I tried opening SD3 within Cubase 14 Pro. No other tracks than the SD3 track. Nashville Slam took 4 min and 9 sec to fully load.
Then I tried SD3 stand alone, and the load time was just the same as in Cubase. I switched over to 16-bit, but that didn’t affect the loading time.
It it supposed to be this slow, or can I do something to decrease the loading time? Should I move the libraries from the OS disk? That M.2 reads and writes quite quickly, so I don’t understand what’s taking so long.
Thank you for your input.

I was thinking the same thing. Something might be scanning the files for virus signatures.

Thanked by: BradThank you for that, and for all the other input.
of course, the disk works with other stuff as the OS is located on it – didnˋt think of that.
I will look into what other processes might happen as I load.
In the meantime, a new 4TB M.2 and an additional 32Gb of RAM is headed my way. So hereafter all plugin libraries will be stored there.

The big thing to look for is do you have an anti-virus program running/scanning your files? If so check into whether you can have SD3 and your daw whitelisted so it doesn’t get scanned.

Thanked by: Brad and Frode HansenHi all, and thank you so much for your great input and tips.
I couldn’t see any malware- or anti-virus software interfering with SD3 as I launch it.
However, I did take up on the advice to move the libraries from the OS disk, and up the RAM from 32Gb to 64Gb. I also bought a second 4TB M.2 disk to which I moved all my libraries – not only for SD3, but almost all the other plugin libraries. Relocating the path for everything was very easy, luckily. Now everything works as it should. SD3 loads up the kits in a matter of seconds, and sometimes even less than a second. For instance, the kit that previously took 6 minutes to load, is now done in 3,5 seconds. Very good!
So that confirms that having libraries on the OS disk was – at least in my case, a very bad idea.
Again, thank you all.

Thanked by: Frode HansenFrode: Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Another good reason for having samples on a separate drives is if something goes wrong and a drive dies or you have to do a system restore. I had to do that over the weekend to my system drive when my email program suddenly lost all it’s folders and emails. Thankfully I had a clone from the day before and all it took was about 6 minutes to fix things up. I also keep my sessions on yet a third drive. And my backups/clones are all on separate drives as well.
