Getting ‘locked out’ of your desktop has nothing to do with the user presets. Exactly what happened to get you ‘locked out’? You have to be logged in to the user account you used originally because that’s part of the path to your user presets.

    Yes, I understand.

Apple caused this problem while trying to solve a minor issue I had.

    Thank you though!

Missing user presets aren’t the only thing you’re going to have an issue with until you can get back into your original user account. You probably have other things on your original user account that are missing like authorizations and such. That being said the path on my machine is (my computer’s name is Beethoven): High Sierra Beethoven/users/Beethoven/library/application support/toontrack/superior 3/presetsezx and in that folder you should see a folder for Superior Drummer 3 which has a subfolder named s3presets and your user presets should be in there. You can set the folder path in SD3. But I still say you should get back into your original user account and work from there.

I have to ask what was the ‘minor issue’ you had that caused you to go to Apple for help?  Whatever Apple did should NOT have locked you out of your original user account unless you fouled that up somehow like forgetting your password? I have my computer set to automatically log me into my user account without entering a password.

Your user presets are located in your original user folder. The path was set by your settings. You need to be able to access your user folder as an admin and not a guest. if you don’t have access to your original account, then you will have to get to it using the terminal and copy it out.  Are you not able to reset your password?

Unless Apple changed something there’s no need to resort to using Terminal. In High Sierra I can login to my wife’s user account and pull data from wherever in my user account. The only issue is the OP would still need his user account password to finish the deed. For info purposes how would you use Terminal to do the deed? Never heard of that one.

I am curious about something – I know the authorization for SD3 is on one’s computer but is it tied to the original user account only?

Sure, the minor issue was that all of a sudden I was asked to enter my password whenever I was moving files from folders to desktop, or to another folder, or move them to trash. I’m talking about mp3’s, PDF’s. When I called Apple I spoke to 5 Senior Advisers; they had me do some things with terminal and have me reinstall Sonoma, and that’s where I couldn’t get in my desktop anymore.

I did all that. The last Senior Advisor from Apple told to use a Data Rescue Service, can you believe that!

Thank you Jordan for trying to help.

Are saying that you are unable to log into your user account? Just trying to clarify

When you reinstalled Sonoma that’s when you lost your user presets. As to being asked to enter your password to do certain actions that’s not a problem – sometimes I get asked that and it’s no big deal. I enter my password and get on with life. Those senior advisers were wrong unless your system was totally ruined. You are essentially starting from a completely new setup. Short of possibly using a data rescue service you’re going to have to re-create your presets. This issue is a prime reason to always make regular backups of your system. As much as I hate to say this but you might want to invest into a separate drive to do Time Machine backups.

Exactly as to my reading and the OP describes it he had 2 separate issues. Being asked to enter a password for doing certain things in MacOS that’s been a thing for as long as I remember.

I’m usually asked to enter my password for taking actions in areas outside of my home folder, such as the applications or system libraries folder, I would imagine that getting asked to your password for doing something within your home folder indicates a permissions issue, which probably could have been fixed, running disk utility. I would agree with you in that this problem is more a combination of problems now.

That being said, I keep all of my Superior Drummer user presets and projects in the cloud in case something goes sideways with my computer

I don’t trust the cloud – never have and I’d rather not depend on having a solid internet connection. That’s why I have a physical iLok. That being said I make backups/clones of everything at least once a week to separate external drives – one for the system drive, another for session, one for samples and a drive that has all my installers. Believe me having those clones has saved my life a couple of times one of which was an Apple security update that bricked my computer.

I think there is some confusion about how I use the cloud. Everything is still on my computer. It is just in the cloud folder so that any changes can be backed up to the cloud. If something goes sideways while I’m away from home, I can access my information and bring it back to my computer.
