I write a lot of tracks in 6/8 and 12/8 time, and it can be hard to browse through MIDI groove libraries because sometimes faster 6/8 beats are categorised as ‘4/4 Swing’, and sometimes ‘6/8 Straight’ seems to actually mean ‘6/8 Swing’ and so on.
So, I try to use the Tap 2 Find feature, but this appears heavily geared towards 4/4 and only 4/4. I can change the metronome to click on 8ths, which at least lets me tap out some simple 6/8 beats (despite it still wanting to click out 8 beats per measure), but the match percentage is never 100% and it brings some some pretty spurious matches as well. This is even if it’s literally just 2 kicks on beats 1 and 7 with a snare on 4 and 10, which should match probably 90% of the 6/8 grooves in my library 100%. If I then filter to 6/8 then none of the grooves have a matching percentage at all – I just get everything ordered arbitrarily by family.
If I fill out the ‘taps’ for the extra notes, I get more matches, but these are usually just syncopated 4/4 beats.
Does anyone know any tricks or tips for getting good results out of SD3 Tap to Find when playing in 6/8?
I’m not at my music computer but did you try adding 6/8 to the filters?
