Hey guys
I’ve been trying like hell to get a snare to sound right using SD3 in logic. Today, out of curiosity, I opened SD3 by itself (not as a plugin in logic) and I pulled up the exact snare I’ve been using in my logic session. It sounds way different. Way more attack.
I checked all the settings in my plugin version compared to standalone version and adjusted accordingly. i.e. compared sustain Settings, envelope settings, randomize hit setting, mixer settings…I even Undid all the EQ and bus sends on that track in My logic Session…etc etc. still sounding different.
any idea this would be? Did I miss something? The one in standalone sounds way better. Any help or insight appreciated.
This may sound obvious, but Logic’s effects and sends are different from the ones found inside the SD3 mixer. I’m assuming you’re only using the SD3 effects in both scenarios?

As I mentioned, I adjusted all the settings to match the naked standalone version.
So absolutely no Logic effects, got it. Did you save your settings as a drumkit preset and compare them side by side that way? Midi In/Edrum preset is also the same in both?

Something has to be different between the two. On a fresh Logic project, any of the snares I have chosen sound no different than standalone. Perhaps, post your Logic project so we can have a peek.

I have noticed in Protools that the kits sound a little different as well. My stand alone kits are brighter and more powerful. I have saved the kits and opened the exact kit file in Protools and noticed they are a little more dull. The snares are more boomy and lose that crack. I have used a frequency analysis to see the differences and correct. Use an EQ to bring your kit to life again. Put it in a bus to effect each lives as a whole. Hope that helped.

The standalone is only a wrapper for the plug-in, so if something has changed, it’s on the DAW end. And, like I said, I use SD3 in both standalone and within Logic and there is zero difference.

Hi guys,
as suggested here earlier, please post your DAW Projects and SD3 standalone Projects so we may have look at what is going on.
You do not need to include any audio in the DAW Projects and please ZIP archive them before attaching to posts here.

Ok. First, here is the stand alone. Using the 7×14 Noble and Cooley Steam Bent Maple Snare
Having trouble uploading the logic session. How big is the file limit here? I compressed the file and there are no audio files in the session. only 32.6mbs
Nevermind. try this link: https://wetransfer.com/downloads/9feac62e7738962f85aea71a74e902c620200628191403/d475d81cc3d95f4f4e84e6f9d514e60d20200628191422/f03eaa
Hi,
I downloaded your Logic Project but there was no zipped SD3 Project attached to your first post?
Anyways, if I save an SD3 Project from the Logic Project and play the Song Tracks back, they sound about as identical as they could, given that you have plugins inserted on the separate outputs in Logic, I don’t have all your plugins but a few of the UAD’s. Even if you have bypassed the ones inserted on the Snare channel in Logic, the Snare bleed coming out on the HH, OH and Room channels in Logic will make the total sum sound different from using the standalone, since the standalone doesn’t have those plugins inserted.
Even if I start with a Default SD3 Core kit and select the Noble and Cooley Snare, it’s not a surprising difference given the plugins inserted on the Bleed channels.
Maybe it’s better if you post an audio snippet, then? Since I can’t tell there’s anything strange going on here. Standalone and plugin but without any extra processing on Bleed channels?

Thank you for taking the time John
regarding the bleed…if that’s the case, would it make sense that it’s reducing the attack? The stand alone sounds much more attack-ier. I’ll try and post an audio snippet later tonight / tomorrow.
