Is there any news or development on SD3 responding to MIDI program change messages? Is there a timeline?

I bought SD3 at least in part to use live for sequenced backing tracks. I expected I’d be able to send program change messages to call up different kits for different songs and I’m a bit stunned that this appears to be not an option.

Does anyone have tips on how to change kits using sequencer automation? I’m using Digital Performer 10.13 and was hoping to use SD3 as a virtual instrument in a V-Rack.

    Thanks!

    Hey Steve,

Presently there isn’t a way to load kits via MIDI commands within SD3. I guess on a positive note, if you search “midi to load kits live” on the forum you will see that a few people have inquired about this kind of functionality. So… you never know.

The only way I can imagine doing at present would be to load different kits on different tracks within your DAW and select which one you want to “play”.

Sorry not the best answer I’m afraid.

    Hi Guys,
Brad is right and it is the only way you can get, a workaround.
I’ve tried several ways even with Mainstage etc., but never found a good and stable running Solution.
The other thing is, that you need a Host where you can preload your sets, because other ways you always have to wait until the next set ist finally loaded.

Let me know when you found a good solution, because I’m still dreaming of a system where I can use different sets live on stage for my edrums.

    Cheers Ilja

It would be quiet a feature to add as you would require a new section where you apply your own presets or other presets into a list to either step through or select and it doesn’t look like it was designed with this in mind.

I agree though it would be useful. I think you would need m.2 drives though as the load times otherwise are quite restrictive. I can load a huge kit in around 2 seconds now.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

Quick update . . . . I finally purchased Gig Performer when it was discounted a few weeks ago over at Plugin alliance for around 70 bucks.
No big deal, but it is worth it. You can create several rigs that you line up for your show and the loading time is lightning fast, because your sets are preloaded.

That’s exactly what I was looking for. Toontrack won’t build such a function to SD3 I think. Let’s think it over . . . to get what you want, your kits in everey special way, need to be preloaded to be fast. How much RAM do you want to pack into your computer for lets say 15 sets you designed?
And in Livesituations you need very fast loadingtimes.

Best wishes to you all out there and stay healthy in this weird times!!!

But, hey, theese guys from Toontrack did their marketing on new edrum features.

And even me, as stinky hobby drummer, was quite upset, realizing that this is no longer possible with SD3 but with ED2 it was.

I used Plogue Bidule groups and group presets to pull up different kits from my user presets, now those configs are useless.

For those guys it should not be a big deal to implement that feature.

Yesterday, I put five SD3 instances in an Ableton Live MIDI track grouped in an instrument rack.

With the chain selector I switch between the instances AND I mapped the “device on” to the chain selector to save CPU cycles.

That is  ok for 5 VST instances and an Ableton Drum Rack. But I will have more and more presets. So … maybe different tracks with chains…

Some guys using Cantabile to save song states … I guess it’s a software like Gig Performer.

Nevertheless I am pissed off …
