I installed SD3 to my OSx drive and the sound library to a 250gig external SSD. My installation seemed to be going well until I used the “clean up” function which seemed to delete the installed files. They are re-installed and verified but I am definitely missing the intention of “clean up”.
My other problems are:
1. My OSx drive is now nearly full because of a 223 gig “sounds” folder in the Superior Drummer folder in application support. I hope these are redundant files. Can they be deleted so my OSx drive can breath again? I have the sound library on an external SSD
2. I am getting error messages from the last two sound library installations (Pt. 4 and Additional bleed). My external drive is 250 gigs and reserved for the sound library files. The last two files are downloaded and nearly complete in the installation but won’t finish. My drive still has over 10 gigs left. Is the error a space issue? Will “clean up” solve it?
Thanks!
Product manager “Clean up” will delete files in the folder that you download to. So I have a few questions.
1) In SD3; Setup > Libraries. Where is the folder SL-SuperiorDrummer3 located?
2) In Product Manager, Preferences > Download location. Where is the folder that you download your installation files to located?
If the folder SL-SuperiorDrummer3 is located on your external SSD, and SD3 knows it’s there, you should be able to safely deleted it from; /Library/Application Support. But make sure that SD3 works properly from the SSD.
Not sure about your second question, so lets go through #1 and see if #2 resolves.

Hi Brad,
Thank you so much. I set the path to my ext. SSD in the Product Manager but this screenshot indicates that it also went to my HDD. I did not open SD3 prior to or during installation. Oh well. Let me know what I can do to rectify this, if you would.
Thanks,
Mick
The first is my ext. SSD, the second is what I think you referenced.
Ok I think I see what’s happened. SL-SuperiorDrummer3_SDX_Part1-4 are install files. They should reside in your download folder but can be deleted when the install process is complete. SD3 is getting its samples from Library/Application/Support/SL-SuperiorDrummer3 (which I gather isn’t where you want it to be).
I am assuming “Drum Data” is an external SSD (so bare with me if I am wrong on that)
So first you will need to shutdown PM and SD3.
Then I want you to copy Library/Application/Support/SL-SuperiorDrummer3 to drum data/Toontrack//SL-SuperiorDrummer3
Then start up SD3 go back into Setup > Libraries. Browse for Library Paths and navigate to drum data/Toontrack//SL-SuperiorDrummer3
(Alternately you can use the menu at the end of the current library (Library/Application/Support/SL-SuperiorDrummer3) and “edit path”
Make sure that SD3 works with that.
Then start up PM and try running the last 2 installers.
If all that works then you can safely remove Library/Application/Support/SL-SuperiorDrummer3
Let me know how everything goes, I am working at home today so I will be around for a while.

Thanks Brad,
Drum data is my ext. SSD however there is no existing Toontrack folder. I created one but it’s only a 250 gig drive so pasting the SD3 folder would require losing the existing library folders. Hmmm, I would hate to have to download them over again but if that would make it right, I will.
I do have space on another mechanical drive so can I move the existing folders 1-5 to that and then replace them?
Those are the “source” folders for the installation. How the install works is that is copies the samples from those folders to SL-SuperiorDrummer3.
Sorry I should have indicated that you needed to create a Toontrack folder. I have 6 external SSDs so I trying to use the developer name as the first qualifier. (Too many years in IT)
I don’t want you to have to download those again, they are data plan gobblers.
So try this. Shutdown PM. Move the folders 1-5 to your spinner (mechanical) drive. Make some folder; TT-download (for example) and put them there.
Start PM up and set Preferences “Download Folder” to TT-download
Stop/Start PM (You may not have to do that, but…. ya know)
Once they are safely “stored” on it, you can remove them from your drum data SSD and then moved SL-SuperiorDrummer3 to drum data/Toontrack/SL-SuperiorDrummer3
Then start up SD3, Settings > Libraries…. edit path…. or browse for paths…
Hope I am making sense

Cool, will do.
So was it a mistake to think I had to install the first download to my local and the library to the external? It looks like I could have saved a lot of trouble by putting it all on my SSD.
No I wouldn’t say it was a mistake; Library/Application Support/ is the default location so that’s why the first install ended up there. You may however want to think about using your spinner as a download or source disk. Thus saving your SSD for actual data. I have a 4TB spinner just for that purpose.
Anyway, keep me posted on how everything is going.

Last thing (hopefully!). Would it make sense to format drum data and start over with it? And will SD3 run from the external exclusively?
Thanks again, Brad! You’re a day maker!!
Formatting the drive net new might not be necessary. It depends (sorry I hate that answer too). If you have trim enabled for third party (non-Apple) SSDs then no. However, if you don’t then that’s not a bad idea. Probably not crucial, if you have already started copying stuff around don’t worry, if you haven’t you may want to do that.
The SD3 plug-in itself needs to be installed on the internal drive; Library/Audio/Plug-ins for VST and AU. Library/Avid/Audio/Plug-ins for Pro Tools AAX and those are the defaults.
I have all my Toontrack samples on an SSD; EZDrummer, EZKeys and Superior Drummer, plus a large number of UVI and Kontakt. No sample library on any of my OS X (OS) drives. So (in my long winded way) yes, you can run SD3 with all your samples on SSD.

Hi Brad,
I hope this finds you well. Again, I appreciate your very kind assistance.
However, I think I’m jacking this installation up pretty well. The second part of my OP referred to the last two downloads not completing the installation so I’m not sure the SD3 folder I copied to drum data is complete. At this point, I erased drum data and copied the folder to it but I feel like I should start over completely. At one point the drive got ejected mid copy so now corruption could be an issue.
Sheesh, this started out so well too.
Anyway, I don’t want to bother you with it but if you do have any suggestions they would certainly help.
Cheers,
Mick
Sorry I am out on the road until this evening . You’re right as your install is probably incomplete. However, you could try running all the installers again and all it will do is overwrite the new installation on your SSD. Does SD3 now recognize the SSD as your new location?

Yes, the paths are set to the ssd and I’m seeing drums. If I understood you correctly I will now re-install to my spinner and then copy over to the ssd, eliminating the bulk that was causing me issues in the first place. I will then delete the SD3 folder from my OSx drive.
I can’t change the path in PM. Hmmm…
Be safe out there!
Move your install 1-5 files to the spinner. Point PM to where those files are in preferences. Then run the installers. That should install the sound libraries to your SSD.
Cheers
