Hi everyone,
I just upgraded to Superior Drummer 3 and Cubase 9 Pro and have the following problem:
In Cubase 5 with SD2 I had absolutely no problem to switch to multi-channel outputs in SD2 and activate “all outputs” in the output section of the VST instrument menu for SD2.
In the track list an instrument track with all the SD2 outputs as sub tracks showed up, so that I could edit each instrument track from SD separatly in Cubase.
In Cubase 9 I had no luck with the same procedure:
Via “VST instruments” I created a VST-track for “Superior Drummer 3” that was immediately listed in the track list.
Then I switched in “Superior Drummer 3” in the Mixer menu / output to “multi channel” and activated “all outputs” in the VST-instrument output dialog in Cubase 9.
But all I could hear was the bass drum (because “output 1/2” like before the whole SD-track) and there were no VST sub tracks showing up, like it was in the older version.
Anyone here using SD3 with Cubase 9 in a multi-channel configuration and having an idea how to solve the problem? Does it work for you?
Thanks a lot,
Sven
P.S.: I had no luck searching for help in both manuals, forums and videos on YouTube. I am sure that some of you must have the same problem…
Hi,
you can activate the additional outputs in the Inspector in the main edit window (I don’t know if there is an option to activate them in the mixer). Just click on the top most Tab that is labeled just like its corresponding track name. Go a little down and find the field where you can choose which instrument to load. Right next to it you find a little arrow to the right in an open box. Click on that to activate all or some of the additional outputs.

Thanks for your help, but i´ve tried that too (forgot to mention) – with no luck.
All Outputs are activated in the drop-down menu but it is not like in Cubase 5 that the VST-tracks for each of the outputs of Superior Drummer show up….
But that leads me to a question: Isn´t the little arrow in the inspector window pointing at the exact same output option as what I described?
Hi.. Here it works.. Using Cubase 9.0.30 and there it works as intended. Activate all outs in Cubase from VTI intruments ( i do belivie that you aint running it as instrument track?) then activate multichannel from mixer dropdown menu/Output. That should work, if not something could be wrong in your setup. Is it a clean setup updrading from C5 to 9?

Mac version of Cubase? Good to know that it works for you… But sadly I had no luck (with the Mac version) going the way you described. By the way: clean install, new project.
thanks a lot for your help… It seems to be a problem within Cubase 9 Pro. I´ll try to ask my question in the Steinberg forum.
Hi,
I have the same problem that like Sven has. I have just purchase SD3 and i am working in Cubase 10. I have activate all channel output n SD3 and in Cubase but can not get the sub channels i project windows (Cubase) to show up, i onely here the kick (channel 1-2).
Do have a solution for this problem… Thanks!

So I am using Cubase 10 and clicked activate outputs and clicked on all. The outputs then all appear in the mixer as they should. Are you hiding the channels in the mixer?

Attached a screen shot of the mixer and arranger expanded to show the extra outputs as well as them assigned in SD3. I didn’t use all outputs so not to take too much screen up but it is exactly the same if I do.

Hi Mark,
did you get my last reply about I can’t get the channels visible in project window when I select multi channel output…
Best regards Torbjörn.
Hi Torbjorn
My screen shots show the extra channels in the project window unless you mean something else? Do you have a screen shot of where you are looking? I have Cubase 9.5 on my pc but I don’t have 9 to try it on.
cheers
Mark

Hi Mark and thank you for you replying again. You can actually see this in your screenshot (The pic in the left at the bottom)
i have Cubase 10 and not ver. 9 as Sven have, I just mean I have the same problem as he has with invisible channels in project win.
So I must be missing something here and I can’t understand what it can be, it’s really enoying to not Be able to counting my work because of this..,
Best regards Torbjörn.
They don’t just appear. You have to click on the bottom arrow of the track and it then opens the outputs. Just the same if you had a folder with multiple track in it. You can open or shrink the components.

Hi,
yes I did try if that of course (like you can do with a folder track) but I can’t I need to seek alswear
Best regards Torbjörn.
Hello,
It’s late but maybe it can help someone else.
The best way to have separated track is to add SP3 as a Rack VST. After that you activate all outputs and you will have all separated tracks like audio tracks.
So when you use the multi outputs, do you guys mix directly onto those tracks (meaning the output tracks of SD3 that are showing as automation tracks in the project window) or you route them somewhere else before adding inserts and sends?
Let’s say I wanted to add Waves SSL channel on every output of SD3, should I do it directly there? Or is there a way to route these outputs to actual AUDIO tracks in the project window just like the guitars, bass and vocals.
I am not looking for “bouncing” options because I would most probably be going in and out of SD3 to tweak stuff. I just Don’t like the way SD3 outs show as automation tracks.
