I’m using Superior Drummer 3 with Cakewalk (the Bandlab version). For years (I’m a longtime SONAR/EZdrummer user), I used to drag and drop patterns to the drum synth’s MIDI track in the DAW and edit them there. Just recently I started creating drum tracks using SD3’s Song Track facility, having finally got around to watching the tutorial videos and realising how much easier and more powerful this method is.
This morning, I created a second Song Track in SD3 for my current Cakewalk project to try out some other ideas. It’s perhaps a bad habit of mine, but my usual method of saving changes to a project is to close it and respond ‘Yes’ to the ‘Save?’ prompt, so I was surprised that I didn’t get the prompt on exiting after this morning’s session.
On re-opening the project just now, I’ve got only the original Song Track, and it occurs to me that I didn’t make any other changes to the project this morning that weren’t ‘internal’ to SD3, and that maybe that’s why I wasn’t prompted to save on exit. Is this normal? I don’t do much MIDI stuff in my DAW, so perhaps my expectations are off, but can’t Cakewalk ‘tell’ that I’ve made changes in a MIDI synth belonging to a project? The obvious workaround is to proactively save before exiting, but given the sophistication of all the software involved, I’m slightly surprised that it’s necessary.
EDIT: Just realised that Bandlab’s user forums might be a better place to post this!
