I’m liking the new look and features of SD3, but I’m still having issues getting the hi-hat right with the Yamaha DTX900.
I’m getting an open splash of the top hi-hat cymbal way before I should.
This was not an issue with SD2, and I have the following to report –
I’ve gone over the DTX900 brain, using the manual, and changed every possible hi-hat parameter, including changing all hi-hat notes from
poly to mono, which should not matter with MIDI going out to SD3, but it’s done anyway.
I still get an open top hi-hat cymbal way too soon from SD3, regardless of where the Hi-Hat Pedal Control points are placed.
The hi-hat MIDI notes from the DTX900 (as seen on the DTX900 screen and verified with SD3’s eDrum mapping screen) are as follows:
> Closed Pedal (Foot) 44 (Yamaha) – mapped to 10 (SD3)
> Splash 83 – mapped to 10
> Edge Closed 79 – mapped to 62
> Bow Closed 42 – mapped to 63
> Edge Open 78 – mapped to 7
> Bow Open 46 – mapped to 8
All MIDI notes from the Yamaha DTX900 are factory set – none have been altered.
One interesting finding is this –
The Hi-Hat Pedal uses/outputs CC #4 – yet #4 is listed as “No” in the edited column of the MIDI Mapping Overview.
The Yamaha DTX900 does not use nor output CC#1, yet in SD3’s MIDI Mapping Overview, CC#1 shows “Yes” in the Edited column.
Why does CC#1 show as being edited if it is not used??
That implies the points being adjusted in the Hi-Hat Pedal Control are being adjusted for CC#1 – not CC#4…
Regardless of where the Hi-Hat Pedal Control points are placed, SD3 sounds an open top cymbal out of place.
If I play the DTX900 in “local” mode, using the DTX900 module internal sounds, the hi-hat sounds nearly perfect.
With “local” mode turned off, per the video, SD3’s hi-hat does not feel nor sound fluid.
It felt and sounded much better in SD2.
Anyone have any success with their Yamaha DTX 900 hi-hat and SD3?
Anyone from Toontrack care to assist?
Thank you for any and all replies,
MG
