Hello, I’m recording in Reaper using a TD-4 with VH-11 hihat. The closed/open articulation works great when using the Roland TD-4 preset and CC setting on More Closed. HOWEVER, when I export the midi file from Reaper and import to the Grid Editor (using TD-4 settings) the hihat articulation changes as if NO Preset Curve was applied. I also noticed it changes the range to 0-90 instead of 0-127. Any reason why this change would occur?? Thanks
Hi,
what happens if you select the TD-4 preset, apply the More Closed CC curve, then Save your own MIDI Preset, e.g. ‘TD4 MoreClosed’, Import the MIDI file to your Song Track and make sure that the ‘Apply e-drum preset ‘TD4 MoreClosed’ box is checked?
You have no problems with MIDI recorded directly to the Song Track in SD3, right?

John

Thanks for replying John. I tried the above suggestion but did not import my User Preset with the midi file as created – “TD4 More Closed Preset”. I checked both boxes, Tempo and Apply e-drum preset before importing. I actually haven’t tried recording directly to the song track in SD3, only importing midi files.
Follow Up:
So I did test recording directly to SD3 Song Track and the Articulation DOES work. In Reaper I have to enable record on the DAW track to record, even if I’m recording into SD3 directly it seems… When I edit in SD3 Grid Editor the changes don’t appear on the DAW track however audibly they have changed. Is there any way to link the two or do I just ignore the DAW track when editing in SD3?
For now, I’d just say ignore/mute/delete the DAW Track and work with what you have on the SD3 Song Track.
I’ll check with my colleagues if this is intended behaviour, though.

John

Thanks John, will do! Please post back if you find and answer if the behavior is intended to be independent or linked to the Daw track. That feature would be amazing if editing could be linked for a variety of reasons. ?
Well,
what you edit on the SD3 Song Track can never be reflected on the DAW Track, that kind of communication does not exist (well, maybe in a future if SD3 adds ARA2) between plugin and DAW.
What I was referring to was that your CC curve mods didn’t get applied when importing to the Song Track but when recording.

Sure thing, I got you. Possibly just a issue on how Reaper exports Midi files? Is there a specific setting I should look for to “embed” curve data that it may be missing? I appreciate the help.
