SD3 File Management

I’m having difficulty knowing how to best manage SD3 Grooves/songs.  For example:

1. Drums – Latin Cuban Percussion
2. Library Selection Menu – Latin Cuban Percussion EZX
3. Preset Selection Menu – Dave Kowalski/Deep Dark
4. Grooves – EZX Latin Cuban Percussion – Congas/Straight 4/4
5. Groove Selection (From Top of List) – Name/2 Congas 01 – Family/ Elena 104 BPM
6. When I drag this groove down to the Song Creator window it names itself “Conga 3 Open Right.”  (Why does it name itself this?)
7. Then, when I drag the song to the User Midi window it renames itself “Track 7” – the number of the track used in the song creator.
8. But, if I rename the “Track 7” window to “Conga 3 Open Right” and then drag it to the User Midi window, it stays “Conga 3 Open Right.”

Now, at this point I can either drag the midi to my DAW or record the track to a DAW audio track.  But, let’s say I’m working on several different songs in my DAW and I have not retained the Library and Preset Selection information in SD3 for this groove.  At this point, there is no easy way to “open up” “Conga 3 Open Right” and have it sound as it was originally created without the original Library and Preset Selection information being activated – which I have no way of remembering offhand.

Is there a way to save a groove in the song creator window so that it open up the related Library and Preset Selection information in SD3 as it was originally created?

Sometimes the labels of the grooves get lost and appear as a generic midi file name. I hate that

I’m still confused.  My understanding is in order to assure that the groove sound you select retains its actual sound you hear when you play the groove with a particular library and preset selection, the library and preset selection options need to remain consistent each time you open the groove.  Or, otherwise, if those change the next time you open SD3 the grooves will sound completely different.

So, my question is if there is a way to save library and preset selection options for a particular groove in SD3 so that the sound of the groove stays the same each time you open it?  If there is a way to do that, please let me know.

Doesn’t File > Save As (saving as a project) accomplish what you are looking for?

This has happened to me more than once with Toontrack.  They make great products, but attempting to locate something in their documentation as simple as what you suggested seems to evade me.  Your suggestion was very helpful!

This file name process seems confusing.  Perhaps a refined process could be included in a future update.
