+1 to Superior 3 crashing constantly with Cubase 10.5.5

    Mohave (10.14.6), Cubase (10.5.5.1), Superior Drummer (3.1.5)

Loads fine in empty project but the moment I try to select a new SDX or EZX it crashes Cubase as well.  Haven’t tried anything else but load different kit.  From Crash Report looks like the same issue others are having.

I think this is solely an issue in Cubase 10.5, I have Ableton 10 and loaded superior 3 up in there to test and didn’t run into any issues.  I think Steinberg is the responsible party from my n=1 test.

Fwiw I opened a ticket with Steinberg but it doesn’t sound like those get a ton of traction.  I rolled back to Cubase 10 for the time being.

I have just found the cause of these crashes and fixed it. It was a problem in the JUCE SDK. It was easier for me to reproduce in GarageBand than in Cubase 10.5 (because Cubase can’t be debugged with “Guard Malloc”, it crashes at startup then). Not sure but I suspect the SD3 crash can only happen in hosts that have been built with macOS 10.14+ SDK. That could explain why it works fine in Cubase 10.0 and most other hosts.

We’ll try to get an update out relatively soon.

SD3 crashing all the time with High Sierra and Cubase 10.5. Very frustrating

Same issues here. Just purchased SD3 and cannot get it to be stable in Cubase 10.5 on macOS Catalina. Downgraded to Cubase 10 in the meantime and it works perfectly.

    crash

Hello Olof – is there any update on this fix?

I use Cubase 10.5 with many SD3 kits and it is currently unusable as it crashes all the time. It runs fine in Logic but Cubase is my main DAW and all my projects are in Cubase mostly with SD3 drums on that I can’t edit.

    Thanks

    Douglas

    Hi Olof

I just tested the new SD3 version 3.1.6 here on my Mac running Catalina and Cubase Elements 10.5 and that is working now and has fixed the issue where ver 3.1.5 was crashing when loaded in Cubase Elements 10.5 on Catalina.

Going to have a fun weekend playing my v-drums with SD3

    Thank you 🙂

    Gavin
