When I have SD3 open in Cubase I find it very difficult to edit in Cubase and go back and forward to SD3 without losing my place in the grid editor. This happens especially when using the transport at the same time. You have to go back to Cubase and make sure its in focus by re clicking on the relevant page to allow you to hit play. I find it disrupts the workflow a lot. Does anyone have a work around they use to go back and forward between the two programs easily? I use 2 screens so have SD3 on one while editing Cubase on the other.
I often work with a loop area, and have keyboard shortcuts for playing from the start of the loop, play from current location, jump 1 bar left or right etc. I use Logic, but all hosts have these functions/shortcuts. The keyboard is your friend when it comes to working fast and efficient 🙂

Henrik, yes I wonder if Logic has a different behaviour than Cubase? When I have SD3 open and work in the the grid editor (or any page) then when I hit the keyboard for play or rewind nothing happens (because SD3 is ‘in focus’) – so I have to click back on Cubase to make sure its ‘in focus’ to make the keyboard shortcuts work. If I go back to the Grid editor in SD3 , and hit enter on the keyboard (for play) for example, the grid editor moves right to the bottom of all the rows. Its easy to forget which program in ‘in focus’. My wishlist is to allow editing in SD3 and full control of transport in Cubase at the same time ! Its a small frustration – but I do love all the toontrack products !
I use Cubase 9.5 is there a reason you are not using the drum editor in cubase? All my midi is in cubase and not in SD3. I find it much easier as other midi is in cubase so I can use the same workflow. I can understand using the editor when in standalone mode but not within a DAW

Yes its a possible solution thanks – is there a drum map that is comprehensive enough to use? (but I do prefer to use the SD3 grid)
Creating your own drum map in Cubase is easy.

Hm, that’s strange because the play keyboard shortcut (space) should start the host even if SD3 is in focus. The way I rewind the songtrack in Cubase is by pressing the 1 on the key pad, and that does work even if SD3 is in focus too.
You can always go into Settings in Superior Drummer 3, and disable Keyboard Shortcuts, which should bypass keyboard event directly to Cubase.

I’m using a PC with windows 10. I use the 1 and 2 to move between left and right locators and the enter button to playback. I will confirm what each does in SD3 when I get back to the studio later. Will try disabling keyboard for SD3 also.
Ok. Since the Enter key has a different function in SD3 than starting the song track, the keyboard shortcut clashes with the keyboard shortcuts of Cubase. We made it match Space for playing the song track in SD3 and in the DAW. So you can either use Space to start the song track, or disable the shortcuts.
