Just updated to Big Sur – slow I know but I do like to make sure there are no issues before I jump ship.
The first time I run Logic (latest version 10.6.4) it has to rebuild the Plug-In file which it seemed to do with no issues – but when I opened my last project it said SD3 wasn’t available. Sure enough, Plug-In Manager says that SD3 version 3.2.4 couldn’t be opened. I removed the AU, rebooted and ran Logic again – no issues this time and the project opens fine just no drums. I added the AU back into the folder, rebooted – still the same issue – it says SD3 AU can’t be opened in Logic. Help!!!!
Bumping this – Toontrack Support trying to help but so far nothing – have uninstalled and reinstalled Logic, reinstalled SD3 (full and just the AU plugin) – every time it says that the AU can’t be validated in Logic. I’ve seen for older versions of OSX there was a need to, and ways to force Logic to validate a file for use but nothing for Big Sur.
Any suggestions past the obvious un/re-install would be much appreciated.
Hi,
sorry to hear you’re having problems. I’m running SD3.2.4 with Logic Pro 10.6.2 on Big Sur 11.3.1 with no problems here.
Are you referring to clearing the AU cache? If so, you navigate to your User Library folder then ‘Caches > AudioUnitCache’ and delete the cache files there, then reboot the Mac, open Logic and let it rebuild the Cache.

Thanks, John – I did clear the cache before reinstalling everything and that didn’t help – I’ve just done it again and this time still see the same error and message in the Plug-In Manager but this time it gave me a change in that SD3 showed up in the Incompatle Plug-In list in Logic – when I tried to open it from there, it flagged up an error in the Legacy of Rock SDX which I have open up as default in SD3 – so now I’m reinstalling that – 180Gb ouch. Fingers crossed that will solve the issue – if not I’ll be back.
It’s possible that you may have created some form of security issue when upgrading your OS. Try opening up SD3 in standalone and running through each of your libraries. If any security dialogue boxes come up, that may have crashed the AU validation. You would obviously want to allow whatever SD3 is requesting access for.

Thanked by: JamesNo problem! That being said, should you find and clear any security issues, re-run the validation and check any output if something goes wrong.

Unfortunately running SD3 standalone didn’t have any issues with any SDX or EZX; but right after trying that I got an email from Toontrack support – big shout out to those guys for giving up on this one – and the simplest thing seems to have solved the problem: Perhaps more of a band-aid than a cure but still – I just need to switch my audio interface (Audient ID4) on before I launch Logic and then SD3 validates fine.
I’ve never had this in any other version of OSX so not sure what Big Sur did under the hood that makes Logic freak out like this but at least I’m back in the game again.
Thanks, both John and Jord for your responses and help – nice to know we’re not alone when problems strike.
