Upgraded to SD3 recently from SD2 and since then have had regular crashes in Pro Tools. All very random and rarely happens doing the same thing. Running PT Ultimate 2019.5 on an 8-core iMac Pro with 64Gb of Ram. From sounds loading up and playing distorted to patches playing back out of time and issues where dragging midi files into Pro Tools causes the system to hang it’s becoming extremely frustrating.
I didn’t have any issues with it until I upgraded to PT 2019.5, so I’m guessing the issue is some sort of compatibility between the 2 but I can’t be the only person having these issues running SD3 on PT Ultimate 2019.5.
Can anyone shed some light or even confirm they are running SD3 in PT 2019.5 without any issues?
Hi Stuart,
I am away from my rig until this afternoon (I use PT 2019.x as well), but will take a look when I get home in a couple of hours.
Mac Studio M1 Max, RAM 64 GB, 1TB Drive, OSX 12.x/13.x and Windows 10 (VM)
DAW: Studio One Pro (always up to date)
DTX Express III (Extreme triggers), Nektar LX88
OWC Thunderbay Mini (4 X 1TB Sata SSD), Express 4M2 (4 X 2TB M.2 SSD), Envoy Express (1TB M.2 SSD)
Presonus Quantum, Faderport & Faderport 8
Black Lion Sparrow Mk2 A/D, FMR-RNP-RNC, MIDI Xpress 128, BM5A, KRK VXT4, Equator D5
2020 Macbook Pro 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD Audio(mobile rig)
Look into SD3 settings/performance and use only 1 core.
SD3 with multi core engaged can cause some erratic behaviour.
May be this will help.

I’m afraid this made it worse, it crashed 3 times in very quick succession. Any other ideas?
I have been having some crashes and with dump sent off to Avid. I am hopeful that the 2019.6 update released yesterday addresses the problem, although I know was released quickly to fix a local disk problem.

I don’t have anything else to suggest other than try the Avid forum.
May be some trouble shooting might help to identify whether it is Protools 19.5 or SD3 that is causing the problems.
However, I imagine that downgrading PT and trying both SD2 then SD3 is going to consume a lot of time.
Wish I could be of more assistance.

Rodney
Just wondering whether the PT 2019.6 update has resulted in any improvement. So far my system hasn’t crashed. YMMV.

Hi Brad
Upgraded to PT 2019.6 but the problem is still there.
Hi,
I am running SD3 3.1.4 on 3 different Macs (2 Mac Pro’s and a MacBook Pro) and I have not experienced what you describe.
I am not running more than 1 CPU core and have been running Ultimate 2019.5 until 2019.6 was released.
What else is running at the same time?
BR,
John
