I installed SD3 V 3.4.0 about a month ago. I’ve had SD3 for about 3.5 years and it has always been solid. Now in the last 3 or 4 days, it crashes as soon as it starts up. It goes through the splash page and then shows the default kit. The percentage showing the kit loading never goes past 0. I’ve removed SD3 and reinstalled it. I’ve tried to uninstall some windows updates, but nothing seems to work. One of the many times that I rebooted my computer and tried to start SD3, I clicked on the menu and I got a message that SD3 had not shut down properly and asked if I wanted to go back to a previous successful shut down. I clicked yes and SD3 loaded properly and seemed to work fine. I tried to open it again today and it is crashing at startup again. I noticed that when I reinstalled SD3, it wasn’t like I was setting it up for the first time. My default set (which isn’t part of the core library) is what opened. Could there be a corrupt file that is loading at startup?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks. It looks like an ASIO driver is causing the crash: rthdasio64.dll

Thanked by: Dean StadtlanderI just did a search and that is a Realtek asio driver. I didn’t know they made asio drivers. A google search showed a few people having problems loading software with this driver. Always a good idea to give full spec of what is being used when reporting a problem. I take it you don’t have a dedicated audio interface? Maybe the driver has been updated automatically and that has caused the problem. Also try asio4all and see if you can load with this. You may have to disable the Realtek driver though as sd3 will probably try to load using it otherwise.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

In a previous post I wondered if the OP was possibly using the built-in interface and he came back and said he was using a PreSonus Studio 24C. I’m thinking he still has the onboard interface enabled. I remember that Windows doesn’t take kindly to using multiple audio interfaces at the same time. Like you said there’s no such thing as TMI when asking for help. The devil may be lurking in the shadows. I would think the PreSonus would have it’s own drivers – ASIO is good only if such a driver doesn’t exist.

Thanked by: Dean StadtlanderIt could be that sd3 was opened when the 24c wasn’t connected. It would then probably default to the inbuilt audio and maybe stick with it until swapped in sd3. Since it crashes sd3 then it would not be possible to change. If that’s the case (sort of guessing here) then I’d disable the Realtek audio, at least until the 24c asio is the selected.

Thanked by: Dean Stadtlander and drumjack52To Everyone that responded. The best I can tell, the problem was caused by an update to Davinci Resolve, a video editing program that also uses Farlight for audio editing. I’ve used it for a few years with no issues, but I updated it a few days prior to my problems with SD3. I completely uninstalled it. I’ve been able to load SD3 for the last two days without issue.
I appreciate everyone’s input and help. It’s good to know that there is a strong and helpful Toontrack community when you need it.
Good sleuthing on this one. Congratulations on finding the culprit. Luckily Fairlight hasn’t given me any problems so far (as he knocks on wood).

Glad you found it. Sounds like a difficult to find as it’s not an obvious answer.
