Save Mixer routing when going between entirely separate libraries

    Hey E T,

This is a hairy one, because there are many ifs and buts to take into consideration when preserving routing. I didn’t find an open feature request for this, and I think it’s because it would only rarely work in a satisfactory way.

We do have the multi out menu choice (In the mixer view go Mixer → “Apply Multichannel Outputs”), but when you load a new library, you’re not just loading in new drum kit pieces. You are changing the recording studio, microphone layouts and positions as well as the internal instrument routing, so keeping your custom routes is not guaranteed to give a good result when using different libraries.

What kind of functionality are you looking for? Just the channel routing, or bus sends too, or instrument routing?

I think the easiest solution right now is to do a one-time investment and setup user presets for each library you’re using. Then whenever you start a new kit, you can do a partial load for the mixer (alt+left click on presets with a down arrow next to them, or click the down arrow). This loads in an entire mixer, including effects, sends, levels and routings.

But you have to do that for each library.

Completely understand the complication here, in that the mics configuration differs in each library.

I will take your word of advice and put in that one-off investment to set my libraries up properly. This is what I had intended to do originally, but I thought I’d check and see if there was some way around it that I was missing.

    Thank you Erik.

I must confess that your discussion here is confusing me.
As far as I know the output routing is conserved when changing
to another library as long as ‘keep output routing on preset change’
    is checked.

Why change to another library? You can stay in the SD3 library and change each part of the kit out individually and save. I never actually open another library. I always just change the drums individually. This may not work for you though if you use presets etc.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

@Erik, to answer the functionality question, I’d hope for just the channel out to DAW routing to stick. I still have my base routing to set up but am considering SDX and/or EZX purchases during the sale.

But this thread answers my question about applying my future routing set up to included presets.

@Olle You’re getting library confused with preset.

    Hey BezO,

If all you want to do is route the instrument mics straight to your DAW (and not use the built-in mixer), a default multi out is available through the “Apply Multichannel Outputs” menu button. You can find it in the Mixer drop-down menu in the top left of the mixer view.

It’s not 100% what you’re after of course, but if you have a conventional multi out routing, you can save yourself some time with that function.

    Hi ET,

I tend to make templates for different libraries. I have different ones that I use for example SD3 x 16, SD3 x2, Roots x 16, Latin x 16 etc. Although this does take a bit of time to start with.

I use Logic Pro X so I tend to start with the required drum template and go from there. Being careful to save the project under a different name to avoid overwriting the original template.

    Regards

Thanks! I was not aware. I’m sure you saved me a lot of time.

No, I mean that the ‘keep output routing on preset change’ feature is active both when changing preset and library. It does its best to preserve the routing to outputs, whether you change preset or go to another library. Perhaps you are looking for a feaure that goes beyond that?

Btw, the presets in NY Vol 3 are a bit weird. They have only a single buss routed to an output, so this feature is not going to be of much use when changing between them.
