    Hi,

if you are asking wether it works to use TD-50 as a multi-channel USB audio interface for SD3 or not, I’d say not.

From what I can see, the module only plays back 4 channels over USB Audio. If those 4 channels are enough (I imagine that’s 2 different L/R Mixes?) for your needs, then it would work but from your question, I think you want to have Kick, Snare, etc separated.

The TD-50 supports 8 channels over USB, the TD-50X supports up to 32 channels, I’m surprised and somewhat disappointed that as a “technical advisor” you don’t know that…. maybe you need an “Edrum specialist”

Well, the OP does not mention the TD-50X so that’s not really relevant, is it? 😉
According to Roland’s tech specifications,  the TD-50 can play back 4 channels over USB, so I did not see any reason to contradict that.
However, reading the manual, I see that on page 30 it says that:

The output destination setting for USB audio is shared with the
output destination setting of the MASTER OUT jacks and the DIRECT
    OUT jacks.
You can select a total of 10 channels of output destination from
MASTER OUT L, R, and DIRECT OUT 1–8.

This makes it seem like the OP’s question should have a positive answer but I can’t check this myself, since I do not have a TD-50 module.
If you have any personal experience on how to set up the TD-50 as an audio interface for SD3 with separate outputs to FOH, please feel free to share.

    BR,
    John

The answer to the user original question about playing SD3’s output back through TD50x’s 8 Digital outputs, is yes.  There is a setting in the OUTPUT-USB on TD50X for USB “Loopback” and gives you that ability.  You also have to set the OUPUT to “Vendor” as well to have your PC recognize the TD50X.  On the computer, you have to choose ASIO, and then the audio output to TD50X outputs.   In the SD3 mixer, you’ll see all 32 output channels, too, and you can individuall assign the outputs.   You can of course play around with all the assignable output settings on the TD50X.   I have them set to use 8 direct outputs, and also the mains’s for my monitors.   The PD-14DS digital features are all recognized by SD3 as well.   All the setting, configuration, and execution to get this work is in the manual for the TD50X.   Note: you can upgrade TD-50 firmware to work like the newer TD-50X, though it’s a $199 cost to do download and upgrade.  Read the caveats to upgrading though, you’ll lose all your kits and have to start from scratch.

Does this work with Mac OS X operating systems?

    Hi trevah_1,

AFAIK this works on both PC and Mac. There are drivers to download for Mac as well at the link above.

I can’t seem to route any SD3 sounds to the Direct outs on the Roland TD50. I can route SD3 sounds to the mains but can’t figure outlaw to route individual instruments to Direct outs. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Do you mean the TD50 or the TD50x?

D1ondbeat mentioned that the Loopback function is a part of the TD50x. Loopback is not a part of the TD50 (as the word isn’t even in the TD50 manual).

TD50X does but not 50. Using above OS 10.11 only for Roland USB Drivers. We still find issues after using the Vendor and Loopback or direct in to get SD3 to output to the Roland direct outs.

Any good solution here? I wann do the exact same thing. Using SD3 and put the sounds on the TD50X Outputs without using another interface. anybody who could solve it?
