The answer is yes you can but I’m not in front of my computer to explain. I have done exactly the same with my TD30 as I have 5 toms and 5 cymbals which all needed mapping. You can use the learn function but I find it easier to record the midi and write down the note numbers and then map them to the extra toms. Sorry I can’t help more but not at home to help me to explain

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

Thank you, Mark for your reply. I’m happy to wait until you’re at home and can maybe give me a bit more of a “tutorial” on how to do what you said. I don’t understand the “learn” function. I’ve never used any software from ToonTrack before, so I am really a bit lost in trying to make all this work together. Thank you, and anyone else that might come across this, for any assistance you can provide so I can play my Roland drums with the SD3 recorded kits.

    Hi Ben,

I’ll show you a quick example with 2 pictures:
    Add-extra-tom.png

    Learn-MIDI-input-transform.png

In the first picture you can see I added an extra Tom to the Yamaha kit and it got assigned MIDI notes #1 for Center Hit and #32 for Rimshot.
You can of course edit this directly on the Drums page but since there might be a compatibility issue with Toontrack MIDI grooves when you do so, it is better practice to make use of the MIDI IN/E-drums page transformation, or wrapper if you will.
On the MIDI In/E-drums page you have already selected the Roland Preset, right?
When you hit your extra Tom, you will see the note number that is sent from your module in the lower left corner, in the MIDI In Analyzer.
The easiest way to map the Center hit for your Tom would be to select the (in this case) Instrument 1 Center note (#1) and then click the ‘Learn’ button. The next note you send to Superior 3 will be Input transformed to note #1 and thus will be triggering the Center hit of the extra Tom.
Use the same principle for your other instruments and articulations.

When done, please do NOT forget to save this as your own Preset!

    BR,
    John

Thank you, John. I appreciate the time you took to reply to me. I liked the pictures, as I am a visual learner – so that helped. What I didn’t understand is on the mapping page (doing that instead of the Drums page), how is it that I “add” the extra tom or cymbal? I’m not understanding that part. I am a bit frustrated, because for paying $400 US Dollars for the software, there really should be better instructions on how to do what needs to be done. There are no YouTube videos that show how to do this, and I can’t find anything on the web that walks through these steps. So, thank you again, and can I bother you for a bit more detailed instructions? I’m having a hard time with this software….

If you check out this video @ 2mins (it’s on the Toontrack YouTube channel), it describes how to add an Instrument. This video was made with a Beta version, so the term ‘X-drum’ is used instead of Instrument.

So is there a reason why I cannot add an instrument from another library straight to the kit instead of being off to the side? For instance, I want to change one of the SD3 library crashes on the kit to a crash from the Metal Machine library and use the same midi note as SD3 has already mapped. I thought I remember this being in SD2…

**EDIT** I figured it out… Embarassed
