I would like to get advise on how to trigger superior drummer 3 as vst on my current setup.
I have Roland TD12 module with the midi out going to midi in of the Behringer UMC404HD audio interface and with its usb
connected to my DAW (Reaper). my headphone is connected to my audio interface.
I can hear my kit when i strike the instruments and it does register as well in reaper. SD3 opens up when i access the track’s FX
and i can hear SD3 instruments when scrolling and clicking over it with my mouse. I selected TD12 in the SD3 Midi/Edrum settings
but no luck in triggering SD3 when i hit my drum kit.
Can i get help, advise and suggestions as to what else im missing here.
Thanks Everyone.
What’s your operating system? Different things to look at depending if you’re on a Mac or Windows machine.

hi tomrip, i only have 4 tracks on my Reaper setup and they are set to automatic record -arm when track is selected.
hi drumjack52, I have Reaper v6.83 and Superior Drummer 3 version 3.3.6 installed on my desktop running on Windows 10- Home, with Intel i7 -3770 cpu at 3.40GHz, 16GB RAM and 1.3TB HDD
Does your drum kit trigger Superior Drummer in standalone? If so, you might want to check your MIDI channel on your instrument track in reaper. One more silly question: is SD instantiated as a plug-in in reaper?

Hi Jord, yes, i can trigger SD3 with my drum kit as standalone and SD3 does appear as a track FX vst plugin in Reaper, but when i load SD3 as a vst plugin in the track’s FX, my drum kit can’t trigger it. i will check the settings again and will follow your suggestions.

I think I have an answer – SD3 is NOT an effect it’s an instrument. Not sure about the terminology in Reaper but I would think it’s like every other daw out there. Treat SD3 like every other virtual instrument you use.
As an FYI it would help in future posts that you include your SD3 version and operating system. There’s are selection popups right underneath the reply window.

Jack is right: if reaper is allowing you to set up Superior Drummer as an effect, that seems to be the more likely issue. Superior Drummer, as Jack stated is a software instrument. However, I don’t claim to be a reefer user. I am mainly drawing on my experience from Logic Pro X, in which SD3 is clearly considered an instrument and not an effect.
