I have my TD-25 connected via USB, and I’ve chosen the Roland: TD-25 preset from the E-Drums/MIDI In setup. Everything works, except when I choke a crash cymbal, it gets stuck in a state of perpetual choke. Any subsequent Crash trigger (MIDI 52) will still sound as a crash, but any Bow hit (MIDI 57) which previously worked fine will now always sound as a choked hit. Restarting the DAW fixes this (I use Ableton 11).
Note: I don’t have this problem in REAPER, but I prefer Ableton, so would like it to work there.
I’ve updated my Roland firmware and my EZdrummer, and the problem persists. I tried searching the web and forums, and found similar problems without a clear solution. The best lead seems to be this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ax-taS0Qg8g which indicates that if I increased the gate time on the MIDI signal from the drum module it would fix it. Unfortunately, I can’t figure out a way to do that on a Roland TD-25, so I can’t check if that would actually fix it for sure. But, I did try holding the choke, then hitting the bow and releasing the choke immediately. When I do it just right, the cymbal behavior goes back to normal, which indicates that if Ableton sees the choke release signal during the duration of a bow hit, it goes back to normal. Basically, it seems like Ableton doesn’t see the choke release UNLESS it’s during the MIDI note, which is normally super short and already gone by the time it triggers. However it does see the choke trigger, so it chokes.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
I have the same issue with Ableton 11 and the TD-25 with EZ Drummer 3 and it drives me nuts. I’d love some someone to fix it.
