I downloaded SD3 a few days ago and I’ve tried to get an answer in another thread and from Sweetwater but I’m getting zero responses…so here we go again.
My knowledge of CC/velocity etc… is not very good and I’m having a hell of a frustrating time trying stop the hi-hat from being open ALL THE TIME. When the pedal is depressed the hi-hat is still open. No matter where I hit the hi-hat, it’s the same exact open sound. When I downloaded the demo of EZ drummer it worked right out of the box. Now I go and buy the ‘fancy’ version and it’s not understanding the hi-hat. Are there any video tutorials that explain how to set this up?
Hi,
did you open the MIDI In/E-drums page and select the Roland Preset?
What does the input Analyzer tell you when you’re on that page, does it register notes and CC when you hit the HH and move your foot?

Hi John,
Yes, selecting the Roland Preset was the first thing I did. I have attached a screen shot of what I see when stepping on/off the hi-hat pedal without hitting the hi-hat. I’m just trying to get a baseline or some place to start 🙂
For example, is there an explanation like this anywhere for SD3? http://www.graysonkilmer.com/2015/09/03/how-to-setup-the-hi-hat-pedal-in-superior-drummer-2
On the screen you just showed, click on the right side where it says “Hi-Hat & Snare CC”
Then right below that, click where it says “Hi-Hat Pedal Control”
You will then see a series of dots on a slider that you can move up and down. You’ll want to move the bottom two dots to get your “Tight” and “Closed” where you need them so that when your pedal is pressed all the way down you get the sound you want.
You’ll be able to see over in the lower left of that panel what the CC values are that your pedal is sending. It should in theory go all the way up to 127 when it’s fully depressed, but yours may stop at something much lower, like 90 or so. Just move the dots at the right up so the numbers are at the thresholds your pedal sends.
It’s pretty easy to figure out once you play around with it. I can’t really explain it a lot better than that briefly.
SD3; Reaper; Roland TD25; Win10
Well, I changed the MIDI from Roland to Generic and that seems to have resolved my hi-hat issues but still kinda weird that the ‘correct’ Roland MIDI setting doesn’t work.

Thanks for taking the time to respond 🙂 Yeah, I was just playing around with that with the “generic” midi selected and it definitely honed things in on the hi-hat. I’m gonna try it with Roland as the MIDI now to see if it works.
