Hi
Do you know if Toontrack support the new Roland digital snare + td27/td50 with all it’s abilities ? Or just the basic position sensing that can be found in much cheaper snares and modules?
Hi

Very interesting question, as I wanted to buy VH14 as well.
What abilities do you currently have with the VH14D + TD27 +SD3?
Is it just like VH11?
Hi Overg: it is pretty limited. I am using the TD-27 as a comparison, i.e. when I just use the TD-27 sounds with the VH14 and the PD140 the response is incredible. It is the best hat/snare eDrum available (in my view). The playability is just outstanding and there is nothing to set up: just plug in the hat and snare and it works (you can make fine adjustments like the open/close hat position, but overall it is just wonderfully simple and extremely responsive).
But we know the SD3 sounds are much better and its playability is even more advanced (e.g. LR hand differences, detailed hat and snare articulations). BecasueDrumGeek has been able to make it work, but it seems he did it with a DAW (at least from the YouTube comments he states that it only works in a DAW not SD3 stand alone).
My hope is that ToonTrack can update the SD3 TD-27/50 eDrum setting to make the detailed hat and snare articulates “plug and play” for the VH14+PD140+TD27/50. That way we can all get the best of SD3 with the best hat and snare as fast as possible (one click) and just go play!
I have spend so many hours I can’t even count trying to get eDrums working with SD3. It would be really nice if ToonTrack solved this once and for all. They are the best!
J3 grove, Does the side stick ability work with your set up? (Does it detect your hand on the drum and switch the edge trigger sound to a side stick?)
How does the rim shot repsond with your setup? (On a V-Kit you need to strike your stick on both the mesh head and the edge trigger to produce a rim shot. This even can result in a variation of rim hits if like a edge rim shot. Does your current setup map the midi in that way? (Presuming you have a sound library that would suite))
I think I understand that it doesn’t currently have that behavior for you in your setup.
Also, did you know, the VH-14 has the ability to detect tip or shank hits.
Yet another ability that I would really encourage ToonTrack to work on. The cc midi messages are listed in the roland manuals. So many of the amazingly detailed and beautiful sounding libraries have those hit variations recorded.
Please please please ToonTrack! 🙂
Hi drflame: I will check on that. I am currently traveling (so away from my kit). But hopefully if all us dedicated and loyal SD3 customer keep asking, ToonTrack will make it all plug and play!
Not sure if it’s been mentioned by I’ve had better luck using the TD50x preset on my TD27. It certainly works better and brings the bell trigger into play. I had to play around with the mapping to get it working for the whole kit but it’s workaround until a fix could be brought in. Also, just for the record I tried the TD50x preset in EZD3 and the playing experience appears to be better than SD3 right now – the hi-hat seemed smoother or maybe it was just wishful thinking? give it a try.
Did anyone have luck with this?
Finding myself having to manually map these for the TD-27KV and was expecting to just be able to set a preset since all of the mappings are standard and roland is one of the largest e-Dum makers so I assumed Toontrack would just implement it but apparently that was a poor assumption.
Hey Toontrack it’s been two years….any progress or updates on this? The dampening with my hand STILL doesn’t function in SD3 with the digital ride, and I would love the rims of the drums to not trigger a rim shot any time I accidentally hit one. Is there a solution/workaround yet? I LOVE your software but the fact this still isn’t solved in an update after years on one of the most popular e-kits out there is maddening.
create a velocity gate on the tom rims so if you hit at a level below it you get the rim click and above you get a rimshot
Yes I have done this I just wish there was a workaround that didn’t require that. The bigger issue is neither aftertouch on the digital cymbals does ANYTHING
Not sure how there would be another work round the first one as you send one note number from the module? The next is a very specific feature request for two modules only. It’s not a bug. There is no guarantee that it would be implemented at all. By the way I have a td50x with the digital pads but not everyone does so it may not be a priority.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
I guess it feels like a bug because in other threads multiple tech support people from Toontrack claim it works but they don’t explain how to make it function. I have tried everything I can think of, so it’s either a bug in my setup or operator error on my part lol.
As to the rim thing, that makes sense….I guess I was just hoping. I suppose I could try and find a maxforlive solution via ableton or another 3rd party engine to solve it.
