Hi everyone,
I’m currently testing the combination mentioned above, but for some reason, neither the snare nor the ride trigger properly in EZDrummer.
On the TD-27 (without EZD), they work perfectly—responding quickly and very precisely. With the ride, for example, I have the issue that the edge trigger is completely unreliable. I’ve already tried all possible trigger settings on the module.
So far, I haven’t been using the USB mode in Vendor mode, as I was quite happy with the latency and overall performance. Could the USB mode make a difference? Does anyone know any tricks to get the best possible settings for the digital Roland elements in EZDrummer?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Is anything triggering in Ezdrummer and are you using an external audio interface? You can’t hear Ezdrummer 3 sounds through the TD 27 module unless you have asigned the module to be the output device.
Everything is triggering fine, except the CY-18DR cymbal. I can hear the sounds though the MacBook Pro headphone output or the TD-27 headphone output. Thats not the problem.
The problem is the triggering of the digital cymbal via EZD3.0. Any help?
I have a similar problem with my TD27KV2 Snare – PD-140DS
I have just switched from a TD12 kit with no issues with triggering EZD3.
When I connected the TD27 KV2 and selected TD27 from the preset kits menu, everything worked fine except the snare.
It sounds nothing like when you mouse click on it on EZD 3 software.
No dynamics and no attack, just a buzzy snare sound.
still looking online for anyone else with same issue or a youtube fix so any help appreciated.
Not sounding like a mouse click is normal. A mouse click on an instrument is at max. velocity.. you don’t want that when playing. But when it’s too cozy sounding, increase the velocity and maybe the volume too.
Thanks for the feedback Michael.
just using the mouse click as a comparison. The other toms/cymbals all sound similar to the ‘click’version of the sounds.
The snare, however is nothing like it. Difficult to describe but not a lot of difference in sound level however hard you hit the pad.
sounds like someone has stuck a foam cushion on the snare skin and it’s mostly snare wire sound rather than the crack of the drum.
The brain sound itself is perfect and has all the nuances in sound levels and velocities.
The Digital ride appears to work fine.
I have tried changing the usb inputs around for the Hi hat, Snare and ride but no change.
Checking midi mapping next in case something needs changing there.
Is there any velocity on it? Or maybe the volume in the drum or mixer tab is lower than normal?
Velocity is as per factory settings and all the other pads. straight line from bottom left to top right.
Forgive me if I’m familiar with the terminology – linear I think.
Tried turning mixer levels up but just get the same sound just a little louder.
Volumes settings were same for most toms/drum pads set as per factory at around 4/5 level.
just a quick add to this.
I watched the video on velocity by Shootie School, which was very helpful.
However, adjusting velocity settings doesnt seem to change the tone at all, just more/less sensitive on the snare.
The snare seems to have a slight phase effect on it from somewhere, whichever kit I select in EZD3.
I suspect it’s something outside of EZD3 that is the problem and I’ll need to look at adjustments on the kit module.
I’m still getting to grip with the drum module so I’ll need to swat up on that first.
I’m wary of upsetting the sounds I have because the kit triggers really well as it is.
I also have some Edrum Centre packs on there, which sound awesome and I don’t want to mess anything up.
If I find the problem I’ll report back.

I have noticed that essentially EZDrummer 3 does not recognise the digital pads. I have Digital Snare, Ride and Hi Hats for my TD 27 module. This is updated to that latest firmware. I can play them but they seem a lot quieter than the other pads. So it works and I am using a generic set up with the hi hats on default. I think this is the case with the TD27 and TD 50 preset too.
If you are in the midi set up menu in EZ3 and hit a tom it changes to the tom in the interface and hi lights it. Hit the Floor tom and it changes too. Now hit any of the digital pads and they do not select. I will do further investigation but I feel that EZ Drummer 3 has not fully embraced the digital pads. This is understandable since it is proprietary to Roland. But they do function fundamentally differently to traditional analogue pads. For instance they can go above 127 which might explain why the digital pads might be more muted.
I would like to understand more about this and see what Toontracks position is on the digital Roland pads. For instance I know Superior Drummer has much deeper midi capability in terms of fine tuning, far more then EZ Drummer 3. Does it fully support the digital Roland pads or is it still a question of dialling in the pad so it works in a more manual way
regards
Richard
