The Americana, The Vintage Rock and The Reggae EZX has got kits and sound that are very damped.
You can get some in the Claustrophobic EZX as well but that’s a more modern flavor.

Of all those 3 i own i would go for Vintage Rock as it is a versatile yet wonderful warm sound set.
It has the classic Gretsch / Ludwig tone and depth and suits so many types of music. I like the others but to answer the question and so much more it would be
    the one.

I’d add the Indie Folk EZX to the list as well. The Gretsch kit has that tea towel damped sound you are looking for.

Thanks, guys! I’ll look into those.

Is there any way to hear samples so I know which one suits best?

In my humble and personal opinion, the Vintage Rock Kit is the closest to that sound

Use original preset “Dry” and the Sticks “Low Tuned” kit.

Even though other kits say “damped” or “Fake Towels” etc…the Vintage Rock kit is, in my opinion kind of the closest you will get to a Beatles sounding kit, and it has the appropriate sound and treatments.

    Bryan,
I’ve got the vintage set now too (looking for an old school ac/dc / zeppelin sound).

    My question, I hope you don’t mind…

Of the various presets available, there only appears to be a single rack and a single floor tom to choose from.
I would prefer at least 2 rack and 2 floor toms (different tom sounds…), can this be done?

Same for the cymbals and ride/crash – limited options available. is the size of the overall kit really that limited?

    Hey man,

Ringo’s kit was pretty limited. :-)

Because EZ-Drummer 2 allows us to mix and match, you might want to start with a larger kit in a different EZX and then substitute the kick/snare/rack tom and cymbals from the Vintage kit. For example, the CLASSIC offers a lot of options and you could swap in the vintage parts you want/need and use a different rack tom or something to supplement.

I will say that unless you own several EZX expansions, it can be difficult to find other drums that seem to “go with” the main set you are using.

    Hi, thanks.

I’ve generally got metal settings (metal machine, drumkit from hell, metal foundry), but bought the vintage as part of a jamming project with a friend.

i’d rather avoid further ezx’s right now if I can avoid it, I was just wondering of the different presets, if there was a way to get slightly different Toms around the kit.
I use an alessis dm10 kit which has space for 4 toms and I feel i’d be letting myself down…although I have added a cowbell from one of the metal other packs

You have the Pop/rock default kit right ?
Load that ( gives you two rack toms )
Then replace the toms with Vintage rack tom in both positions and adjust the pitch to give one higher /lower. Done !
Then Kik, Snr, floor tom, cyms just need loading no alterations should take a few minutes only and save as.
Its a work around but Will give you Bryan’s idea some life for you if you want to try it.Let us know.

That’s a great idea, juicy. I never thought of just pitching a tom up a little. EZD2 really gives you a lot of options.

I did that before I went to work this morning and it does seem to work. I think i created a new floor tom and reduced the pitch by around -1.2 and a braodly similar (maybe just -0.9) for the rack tom.
worked fine. looks a bit of a mess as i still started with the default ’78 kit though.

none of my alessis presets (midi notes) have come across though, even though I re-loaded them so I’ll just reset it all again tonight before practice and save this new set specific to the vintage drums.

    cheers both of you.
