Folks,
I bought an EZX expansion kit for Logic that sounded great in isolation, but once I started trying to use it with our music I realised I’d made a big mistake. They just don’t fit with our stuff at all.
I contacted customer support directly but they are completely disinterested in allowing me to swap it for something that would suit the music we make. I am bitterly disappointed with this, not only because I’ve totally wasted a chunk of money, but this essentially means Toontrack drums are not going to be feasible for me, which after spending a load of time getting to know the UI and some money buying EZ Drummer initially is really frustrating. I can’t possibly risk buying another kit, even if I wasn’t so frustrated at the lack of help on swapping this one out. I could just be throwing away another chunk of wedge on other unsuitable sounds. It’s absolutely no skin off your teeth to swap it. I can delete the existing licence and you can monitor that in the installer so you’re not losing out. In fact you’re losing out by *not* helping me out here.
There is a staggering lack of sympathy and understand that people will want to try sounds first before committing to buying them. You can trial EZDrummer itself, so why not add-on kits?
And why not be more helpful to someone who has made a mistake? Am not trying to rip you off here, the offhand way in which I was treated is incredibly poor and disappointing.
You should be able to tell if it’s gonna fit what you have going on right away. Interested to hear what pack you got and what genre your music is. I use the Nashville one all the time for Metal projects because it sounded the best in the demos and it’s what I was looking for. You can’t go by headline or what the pack is called to get what you want to hear sometimes. I know it sucks to blow money on software but, when it’s user error that’s a tough one. As the licensing goes it would be relatively easy to swap out the licenses one would think. When you buy any license for software like this they prompt you and tell you a few times, “are you sure” kind of messaging. Good luck – and they constantly have sales on expansions so watch out for them.
1. Direct
2. Big Rock Drums (although which pack is not relevant)
3, The former and I am not blaming the company for my mistake.
4. I fundamentally disagree on almost all of the rest. I listened to packs over and over again on the web site trying to judge what would work best for us.

This doesn’t make sense to me. Yes, it’s downloadable, copyrighted content, but it’s not possible to use it without a key. That key is clearly monitored by you as you claim to know the software has been installed and used. There’s no way of using the software/samples without a key. You won’t be able to use the same key twice, because on install, the program that monitors your installs will report back to base and immediately know the key is already used. Also, if memory serves, you can’t even download without going through the installer. You can’t just go to the website and download a library, so you know exactly what’s going on here.
On top of this, you clearly can offer time limited trials because you do it with with EZDrummer, EZKeys et al. So there is absolutely no technical reason why you can’t offer the same for sample libraries. I think you are harming your own potential sales by not offering it.
As I have stated above, the extensive demos are basically useless because you are not trying them in-situ. You’re listening to them in a different environment, on a web site, not on your DAW, with different instrumentation. You can get flavour of it, but not a proper test of how suitable it.
Also, there is the issue that you can transfer your licence to a different user (which is a great thing) for a transfer fee, which again, shows any of this kind of thing is possible, you just choose not.
