I’m in the process of migrating from a 2013 iMac with 16Gig of RAM to a new iMac 3 GHz Intel Core i5. Presently the new computer has 8 Gig of RAM and I’m just waiting on RAM delivery by mail. When the new RAM is installed it will have 40GIG. I’ve had very few issues with the old iMac and the migration has gone smoothly to the new one. I use SD3 with Logic and Protools with a UAD system.
I find that productions I’ve been working on with no issues on the older iMac bottleneck on the new one and playback stops often citing system overload. To be fair the kits I’ve been using in SD# are about 4GIG of samples.
Once I have the 40 GIG of RAM installed can I expect smoother performance? One would think a new IMac running Mojave could handle more than a 7 year old iMac running Sierra. Is RAM the key?
I have the same with 40gigs. No problems.
