Product Manager Rant

Was having multiple issues with with my MBP and decided to format and reinstall everything from scratch. I should have done it a long time ago but put in off in no small part to the craptacity that is Product Manager. Why does ToonTrack punish its most loyal users with their user hostile Product Manager? The more products you own the more torturous it is to use.  I have EZDrummer2, Superior 3, EZ Keys, EZ Bass, EZ Mix and tons of expansions and midi libraries. Why can’t I just select the products I want to install and install the latest versions with a click and be done? I’ll even let you ask me my password and click a user agreement, ONCE! What is the point of a product manager where I still have to install everything one package at a time. It’s excruciating. What is it managing exactly?  But wait, there is more…

Just when you think you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, you realize that every single item you installed, still needs to be updated to the current version. Why? This makes no sense at all. And just to add insult to carpal tunnel, many times there are multiple things to update for every package.

Anyways now that that is off my chest, I do love the products and am looking forward to EZDrummer 3. Just not installing it…

While I like the Product Manager right now I only have Superior Drummer 3 so the way it operates isn’t an issue. That being said I have other music s/w that gives the option of doing a bulk install or a one-by-one. And that’s a good thing. Especially if it allows the install with only asking once like you mention to input your user name and password.

As to having to update after just having installed something I can see the point of the way ToonTrack does it. It makes for a LOT smaller update download than having to download a multi-gigabyte file all over again. It’s also a lot easier on the developer. Say you downloaded and installed something and updated it. And then comes an update down the line. With Toontrack’s way you’re not downloading a multi-gigabyte file. And that makes it easier on the end user.
