I was asked to post this over here, so, here we go.
While this may be a bit dated in the age of gigabit Internet, not all of us have quite as strong or stable connections. I recently upgraded to Superior 3, and, while downloading the app and its libraries, I found that it destroys my Internet connection (which is a 60/60 connection and very stable). You can barely navigate websites, and don’t even think about watching videos or any sort of streaming. And that’s not just true for the computer downloading everything – it’s breaks every device in my home. I’ve never seen anything quite like it, and I’m a software developer and network engineer.
On macOS 10.14 (Mojave), it is impossible to perform any sort of workaround to limit bandwidth per app due to some architecture changes around when SIP was added and ipsw was removed (several years back). On Windows, there are workarounds, but most are not approachable for the average user.
Most “download manager” applications implement some sort of bandwidth limiting or restriction options. A simple “limit downloads to” amount would be sufficient. Having some sort of scheduling window where limiting/restriction would be in effect would be awesome too, but not essential.
