Problems programming a groove

Sorry for my beginner questions. I am trying to program a groove with closed and open hi-hats. I record the closed hats, then change the setting to open to record the open hats. When I play/record, all the previously recorded closed hats change to open. What am I doing wrong? I am doing this in EZ Drummer 2 without the DAW open.

Is it possible to create drum parts independently in EZ drummer and import them into the DAW without getting involved with the piano roll?

You could use the same method you described, except record with Tap2Find on the Search Tab using the “open/closed” button.

You could record all closed HiHats in the Song Track. Splice your “hihat only” track up, and change the specific hit articulations to Open in The Edit Play Style Window. Then record the rest of your beat.
