I am using Pro Tools 7.3.1 with EZDrummer. Have been using grooves on one drum track in sessions (ie., create stereo instrument track and bus this to audio track). I would like to divide the kit so that each drum (ie., kick, snare, toms, hi-hat, cymbals) are on individual tracks. I am a guitar player, not a drummer, if you can’t tell. Believe that mixing will be enhanced by accessing individual tracks and applying effecst accordingly. Apologize if this question is answered elsewhere, but need assistance as soon as possible. Thank you in advance.
Hi,
if you look in the http://www.toontrack.com/free_downloads.asp and navigate to ‘EZDRUMMER>HostStuff>ProTools>MultiOut’ and download the ZIP file, you will find a Pro Tools Session Template which shows how to set EZdrummer up for separate outputs in Pro Tools.

I tried that. The zip file can’ be read by Microsoft Word or Wordperfect apparently. Unzipping the zip file is the problem de jure.
Well,
ZIP files are De Facto an Archiving standard and both Windows XP and OSX has got built-in extractors so it should not be a problem.
What platform are you on?

Not sure I understand your reference to platform. I am using a PC running Windows XP Office with Wordperfect and Microsoft Word software.
OK,
so when you have downloaded the ‘Template.zip’ file, right-click it and choose the ‘Extract…’ command.
This will extract the Template files either to the same spot as where the archive is or to a location you specify.
BTW, Windows XP is your platform.

Thanks John. I’ll try that and if I encounter any problems I’ll call the trusty IT department in my office. They don’t have to know it’s has to do with music and not business.
My attempt failed. At this point I’m humbled and embarrassed. After going through the right click > extract routine, I ended up with a file that contained a bunch of symbols and meaningless notations. Unless you have a quick solution, the IT guy is my next option. Thanks for your patience.
After extracting, you got a file named ‘EZMulti.ptf’, right?
Please open this file from the Pro Tools File Menu.

John, apologize for the delay. Had to go away on a business trip. Upon return did as you instructed and it worked. I am now able to create multiple tracks using EZDrummer just as provided in the zip drive. One last hurdle to cross. In the past, I have recorded by creating a Stereo Instrument track and bussing to an aux track for audio. Record enable the aux track and your in business. How do you record when you create multiple drum tracks per your zip drive instructions? This last bit of info will be priceless.
Hi,
create new Audio Tracks to match the amount of Instrument+Aux Tracks you have sound coming out of.
Set the Inputs on each of these Tracks to a separate Bus; like 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and so on.
Then insert a (Pre-fader) Send on each of the Instrument_Aux Tracks and set the output of each Send to the Audio Tracks’ Inputs.
Best Regards,
John
