So I plan on having a drummer play his electronic drum kit over the holidays for a song using EZD2, the best plugin ever (applause everywhere). He’s got a fancy roland drum set (td30)with a million pieces. I need to be able to make the most of my time so I want to ask these questions in advance because his time is hard to come by.

    1. i need a midi cable from the module(out) to the interface(in)?
2.Do I have to do anything on the module so I don’t hear those drums coming through?
    3. what do i have to do in pro tools? so that it will see it? Is it like hooking up midi controller…. as an example?
    4. I keep seeing posts with high hat pedal learn?

    Some basic answers
    1. You need a MIDI out from the Roland to the MIDI in of your interface. (or USB to your host if the Roland TD30 supports that)
    2. Don’t plug the audio output from the Roland into anything.
    3. Yup, basically for your purposes it’s a MIDI controller as you’re not worried about capturing the Roland audio. What you have to do for PT depends on whether you’re Mac or Windows. (Mac it’s Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup…. I don’t use Windows so I don’t know there)
    4. Get your drummer to try the hats with the default setting, if that doesn’t work… try Menu > Edrum > Manufacturer > Roland
