To the Toontrack Support Team,
My initial request was simple: “How do I get MONO outputs (Out 3, Out 4, etc.) from Superior Drummer 3 in Pro Tools?”
The problem is that the Superior Drummer 3 (multi-channel) plug-in does NOT appear in Pro Tools. Only the (stereo) version is available, which means I cannot get mono outputs.
troubleshooting
1. Resetting Pro Tools’ plug-in cache (Deleting InstalledAAXPlugIns).
2. Completely resetting all Pro Tools preferences (Deleting the entire ~/Library/Preferences/Pro Tools folder, which also reset my UI settings to Dark Mode).
3. Confirming my Product Manager showed an error: * AAX is not installed.
4. Manually deleting the Superior Drummer 3.aaxplugin file from the /Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins folder.
5. Performing a full, clean re-install of the latest plugin (Version 3.4.1) from the Product Manager, after confirming the Superior Drummer AAX plug-in (50 MB) was checked during the customize step.
After ALL of this, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has changed.
The (multi-channel) plug-in STILL does not appear in Pro Tools. I am stuck in exactly the same place I was 3 hours ago. My deadline is at risk because your software is broken.
I demand an immediate, escalated solution. I need to know how to get MONO outputs NOW.
Do not send me an FAQ link. I have already done everything. I need a concrete, working solution.
My System:
* Pro Tools Studio 2025.6.1
* macOS 13.7 (Ventura)
* Superior Drummer 3 (Latest version 3.4.1)
Dear Support Team,
As supplementary information, I am providing the system details again below. Your Superior Drummer 3 version: 3.4.1 Your Operating System: macOS 13.7 (Ventura) Furthermore, to clearly demonstrate the situation, I have attached the screenshots mentioned in my original post: 1. A screenshot of the Pro Tools Insert menu showing the multi-channel version is missing. 2. A screenshot of the Product Manager displaying the ‘* AAX is not installed’ error. I kindly request that you review the attached files and ensure an urgent escalation of this issue.
Hi,
there are no screenshots attached to your posts but you are going about this the wrong way. There is no other version than the Stereo one simply because no other is needed.
The plug-in must be inserted on a Stereo Instrument Track and once inserted, it has 16 Stereo Outputs (of which 15 can be split into Mono) available although the first pair (1-2) is hardwired to the plug-in. These can easily be split in Pro Tools and you simply hard pan in the SD3 Mixer.
I attach a simple Template for Pro Tools, since it makes it easier to understand. In this Template, you will find 3 examples of Mono mics routed to Mono Instrument Tracks in the PT Mixer. While this Template is set up with Instrument Tracks, the same procedure works with Aux Tracks for the plug-in outputs.
BR,
John

Thanked by: Scott EshlemanI’m going to refer the OP to the Mixer section of the manual.
…specifically, the section 5.1.1 that speaks to the Multichannel option.
