I have all the versions, from EZ2 to SD3. My current goto has been SD2 for a long time. I’m currently working on a project consisting of 12 tunes and a couple of them have EZ drummer and SD2 with certain sounds playing. I like to use EZ drummer loaded with the LP Percussion expansion and SD2 for the main kit. Since I purchased, and installed SD3, I’ve been working on this project and have not been able to incorporate it since the tracks were developed before SD3. However, some of the sounds in SD3 are ‘superior’ to SD2’s and I was hoping to be able to at least use X-Drums in SD2 to replace, say the Bass Drum in a few of the tracks, and or maybe a few other pieces in other tracks, at least until I can start putting SD3 in all my work going forward. I’ve tried pointing the folder to the libs on the hard drive and it sees the folders, but the libs (sounds) in the folder come up empty when attempting to search it. Are the SD3 sounds just incompatible with SD2 (going backwards)? Has anyone been successful doing this? Is it doable and I’ve not been able to find out how to do it?
You can’t use SD3 sounds in SD2. This is by design.
SD3 can read SD2 user presets. So it is possible for you to save the state of SD2 in your project as a Combined Preset and then put SD3 into your project instead and load that preset you just saved. This is a very smooth process in some hosts but, unfortunately, more or less impossible in some.
