Hey title pretty much says it all. Having really bad performance in Logic X 10.7.2 in Monterey with a 16″ mbp M1pro. If i check “use forced cache” it seems to settle it down for a little bit to expected performance, but then it starts to freak out as I zip around the timeline.
I do not seem to be having these issues in Studio One Pro 5.
I am curious if anyone else is having these issues or if this is a known bug that is being addressed. I am seriously considering returning this computer as I bought it mainly hoping for better performance in Superior Drummer in Logic….
Frankly tired of Apple updating OS X too frequently but that is a separate rant
This sounds like a RAM issue to me. I would say that 16GB is the minimum for running a professional DAW these days. And, depending on what kit you are using, you may be loading 4GB or more just in drum samples with SD3. The fact that using forced cache works better for a while seems to solidify this reasoning. When you use forced cache it only loads the samples that are used and then keeps them in RAM. But as you access more drum samples the RAM footprint from SD3 grows as well which equates to using more RAM. And Logic may have a heavier RAM footprint than Studio One Pro 5 does.
Cubase Pro, Korg Kronos, M-50, Hammond XK-1c, Toontrack SD3, EZBass w/lots of expansions, many VSL Vi's, Shreddage 3 everything, and shit-tons of FX plugins.

Thanks, yes 16gb of ram in the new comp. Im a little surprised because my old i7 has 16gb too and few if any stuttering/cpu spike issues. I also am using activity monitor to keep an eye on ram pressure and its been under 10gb. I also have run SD3 on a desktop PC with 8gb memory and really no performance issues.
But yeah…. maybe logic 10.7 has a much higher ram requirement. I used to run it in 10.4.2 without much issue except the GUI would kind of lag on the 2012 macbook pro i7. Random people on the internet seemed to say they had no trouble with SD 3 on m1 air and 8gb memory, but… idk.
Yes Studio One 5.4.1 newest update.
George you are super star. I love you!
Thanks for the responses. I think the issue is pretty much resolved. I suspect I am occasionally running into the memory leak bug that has been reported causing the symptoms. Which would square with what you guys have said about running out of memory. If I reboot the machine occasionally, it seems to stay away.
