Hi, I’m loving the core library in SD3, but I’ve noticed a peculiarity with the hi-hat articulations that has caused me to sub in an Avatar hi-hat instead on my current album project (despite the Massenberg hi-hats being much better overall), which is the first time I’ve used it:
In all the Core hi-hats, the closed and tight tip articulations are panned differently in the OH than the other articulations–slightly right of center when the rest of the hat articulations in the OHs are more to the left–and they don’t seem to show up in the direct hi-hat mic at all. This can’t be correct, can it? I didn’t see a way to control the mic assignments or panning of individual articulations.
Since I’m in the middle of a project, I haven’t updated the FW past 3.2.4, but I don’t see any mention of this in the release notes for later versions.
Have other users noticed this, or could it be a problem with my library?
Sorry to reply to myself, but I have to correct one error above. The two articulations do, in fact, show up in the direct hi-hat mic when I solo it. It’s just that they’re panned incorrectly in the OH.
It’s not a panning issue. It’s more of a Haas effect that appears to be more noticeable with the shorter transients.
