    Hi,

there’s no rule except for too much is too much and if it doesn’t sound good, it doesn’t.
General guidelines would be that adding more of something that is already used should be approached with caution, since it may be easy to overdo it.
Personally, I tend to compress slightly/moderately in several stages instead of brutally in one.
One EQ may add the color I am after but it doesn’t get rid of the rumble and/or hiss on one take, so then I use 2 different EQ’s.
If I find an Amp sound in EZmix that I want to use but I need a more defined “bite” in the notes, I will likely add both a compressor and EQ before EZmix2.

Properly recorded stuff needs less applied afterwards (if the natural sound is what you’re going for).
Almost everything suffers from too much applied in one go (well, I’m not talking about the obvious FX stuff here).

    Did it help or confuse?

    BR,
    John
